Well our usual job is on hold for a month or so. I was going to go on lay off this summer and try and enjoy getting some projects done around the house.

Got a call from one of the bosses on Monday. He has a project for me. Bring my truck over to a place in town here, back under the trailer and head to north western ND with it.

Supposed to be all ready to go. Yeah right, I go check it out, 12 ft diameter tanks on a step deck. They were not strapped down or anything, I don't have straps since I pull a live bottom wagon 99% of the time and have never done any step or flat bed work.

No permits either, I called the boss back, Need straps, 4 40 ft 10K winch straps. Also need over sized permits.

Well this morning they were supposed to have the straps and permits, They handed me 4 30ft straps and some bolt on winches for the trailer (not our trailer). No permits yet, come to find out we need extra permits for around Minot area since they have to divert the truck around town on some country roads.

Well straps were too short, I knew they were going to be, called the boss and said that the straps were too short. Still no permits either.

Well finally got it strapped down this evening and permits in hand. Now I am ready to hit the road 1/2 hour before sun up tomorrow AM.

    Oh goody!!!!!

Well, all went well with the run yesterday other then I did not have proper mirrors to see anything behind me. I mentioned it to the boss but he did not seem concerned about it. Well the truck is sitting infront of the shop this morning to get some mirror brackets made to extend the mirrors out.

Minto ND was interesting, they had to pickup an extra Permit for Ward county as I had to be bypassed around Minot on some county highways on the north side of town. Seems Highway 2 through Minot is a mess and they don't want any over sized stuff running through there.

I hope you are getting a good rate..Just before US52 closed in Minot,I hauled an OD tank from Pa to Williston..and the rate was,for lack of a better word,UNBELIEVABLE.!!:biggrin_255:

I will find out next week when I turn in my envelope to get paid.

He said that the rate was pretty good so we will see.

The company that makes the tanks did nto get me loaded in time to make the trip today. Seems that the place that is getting the tanks shuts down at 3 and I did not get loaded and ready to move till about 11:30. They told me that no one will be around to unload it till sometime around 10 ish monday morning.

The good news is that these tanks are built right here about a mile from my house so I get to have the weekend off as the truck sits loaded ready to roll 1/2 hour before daylight on monday morning. That should be a little after 5 am.

So I am going to spend the day riding my Harley tomorrow and do some family stuff on sunday.

Well the gig ended. Seems I was being used as a guinee pig. The boss wants to do this using doubles and I am not endorsed for doubles. He claimed that the company wanted to use doubles but I found that to be untrue.

I was a little miffed by the rate though. I ran two tanks out and brought two tanks back. I got paid 196 to go out and about 45 dollars to come back loaded with the same style tanks.

BUt it don't matter anymore because I am back to sitting till spud season starts. Have the truck int he driveway right now trying to get all the aluminum polished up. It has been tough since I have not touched the aluminum in 4 years.

I don't haul oversize, but those rates don't seem that good to me. How many miles was the trip?:biggrin_25511:
