Stupid truck drivers

    I was just digging around in my external hard drive and found some old trucking pics and decided to share them.

    This first one was taken on I-80 near Seward, Nebraska. I saw this moron making his u-turn and grabbed my camera-phone. The speed limit in this spot was 75 mph.

    These two below were taken at a rest area on I-29 just south of Sioux City, IA. Heyl forgot to set his parking brake when he went into the rest area. The driver is the blue coat guy behind the trailer in the first pic.​

    This last guy apparently painted his hood like this ON PURPOSE.​

    that second guy is lucky that ditch was there or his rig would have ended up on the interstate and somebody could have been killed

    Since it was relatively close to my company's headquarters and I didn't know if he was near his home or not, I sent a close-up telephoto image of the guy's face to our safety/recruiting guy so he knows not to hire him cuz he's a dumb ###.

    In Wyoming you will see oversize do the first one alot as usually the underpass is not tall enough to go under with a high load and the next one tall enough or an overpass will be 50 to 100 miles down the road so it is common practice to cross the median. You will see this alot on I80 between Rawlins and Rock Springs so if you see me on the shoulder thru there I am just waiting on traffic to clear so I can make my move.

    i dont get how you can let the truck roll away

    its a habit of mine to check that i set the brakes 2 or 3 times before i get out, and to check that i left the truck in gear just in case

    I never leave the truck in gear cuz I'll forget and "ride" the starter and look like an idiot when I get back in. Setting the brakes is the very first thing I do when I come to a stop. The only time I ever sit at a dead stop with only the foot brake holding the truck still is when I'm in traffic or at a red light or something.

    When I drove LTL I got in the habit of never setting the trailer brakes though. It takes too long for them to air up and release when I have doubles.

    You should always set the trailer brakes, especially if you're on a hill. It's just common sense. One time in ice I was parked on like a 0.0001% grade and the truck kept sliding forward until I set the trailer brakes too.

    Well if I'm on ICE it's a tad bit different! Duhh! Set the brakes, chock the wheels, chain the ICC bumper to a tree, etc. :biggrin_2559:

    I set the trailer brakes every time I stop. So it takes 5-10 seconds to air them up, what's the big deal? If somebody backs into you, and you only have the tractor brakes set, your truck is more likely to roll and hit something else.
