I will be out of school in 2 weeks and am interested in them, I would like to know the rider policy, I got kids and a gf and my brother in law may come out with me at times will they all be allowed to come my kids are 6 and 12 I am sure the 6yr old will have to wait a few years but who would want a 6yr old out with you while driving a truck?

I live near the Edwardsville IL terminal will I get to go to orientation there. I am wanting to go OTR and is it 1 day off for every 7out?

Will I get a chance to stop in while out over the road to sleep at home sometimes with a terminal this close to me its like 5 min from me?

    Thanks for any info
    Stay safe out there

Hey there I can not answer all the questions because I am a team driver, we stay out 21 days at a time and are home 4, if we stay out 28 days we go home for 5. I hope another driver can help you with that question.

I do know that you must be driving 6 months, with SNI, accident/incident free before you can take anyone along with you. I think the age is 10 and older.

As far as sleeping you can sleep where you want to, as long as the truck is safe and you do not have to go out of route to do it. If you have to go out of route you will want to talk to your DBL. Out of route will effect your bonuses.
If we am 10 miles from home and have to wait on a load overnight or most of the day we come home to sleep, eat or wash clothes.

I hope this helped some. Welcome to the pumpkin patch.

In order to have a rider, you must have 6 months of safe driving with the company. The rider must be 10 years or older if it is an immediate family member, or 18 years or older if not.

Your orientation will most likely be in Indianapolis IN. I don't think they do orientation in IL. They may send you to Green Bay, but I would thing Indianapolis because of where you live.

As far as going otr, your home time can vary, talk to your recruiter there are different schedules for home time, and also talk to your DBL once assigned.

You are like me and have a terminal that close, if you can schedule your 10 hour break at that terminal then you should have no problems dropping the truck off at the terminal and driving your car home for your 10. Just ensure your DBL knows you are dropping it in the yard, most are secured yards so there is no problem.

A lot depends on where you live. In my four years there I was home every other weekend for 2 or 3 days but I was actually home every weekend due to my proximity to Laredo. I would always run out of Dallas to Ohio and then get a load to Laredo for Monday morning usually stopping at home from Saturday afternoon to mid day Sunday. Then get a load to Tennessee/Illinois/Georgia and head home from there. East coast solo does not go west of I-35 anymore which is a real bummer because that's good running out that way.

I had a good time with them but they are a training company and after a few years their rules would make you quit. We had some idiot come flying out of his truck onto his head on the Laredo fuel island wearing flip flops. Then the whole company became safety boot nazi's. I always wear boots, year round but little things like that equate too punishment for all due to the actions of one get old real quick.

Here in the last few years they have cut pay also. I still have the literature that specifically states that 8 years with the company will get you 46 cpm dated from 2001. I have a friend who is just about finished with Schneider after year 11 and he is earning 39 cpm. So there's the pay cut that so many claim doesn't exist. A lot of the old timers are still there only because they get 4 weeks paid vacation per year and that is real hard to give up. I still have many friends there and several are million milers. They are really stuck between a rock and a hard place.

But at any rate you have kids. Enjoy a year or two on the road seeing places you would have never seen otherwise, get your training and experience, and move on to a company better suited for someone with kids.

I don't think we have a policy against it, but it is definitely frowned upon - so be discreet.

Put the chocks in, and possibly unscrew or otherwise block the brakes buttons and it should be okay.
