I have been through 2 dot reviews of my logbook, and have never been questioned about my line 1 time at shippers and receivers. I typically log 15min per drop or hook, and 1/2 hour for an unload. Any additional time spent at the customer has been logged on line 1.

How is it going to be a law in 2012, it has not even passed yet. and if and when it does its gonna be bad. I know of many that will be put out of business if this law passes. its not right and its not safe...
-
How is forcing someone to run legal "not safe"?
-
It's not law by 2012, it's a law affecting every truck with an elog system built in 2012 or later. It has zero affect on any truck 2011 or older and no effect on any truck without elogs. Nor does it require any truck to be equipped with elogs.

I would like to give a lil input to this thread. We have had the new qualcom since march, an overall been very pleased with it. BUT...
The nav system tends to go down,,,usually in New Jersey, or other major cities where ya kinda need it...told DM, they said, oh thats not supposed to be up an running yet.
If you get the frozen screen, yes control-alt-del works.
But if the whole system blanks, no lights etc, hope you are near Phoenix, SLC or Mira Loma.
There may be other terminals that fix em but after this last week I doubt it. Walk into a shop an say new qualcom an everyone, as if on cue, says we are not trained to work on the new qualcoms, cant do it!
Hmmm wonder if they are like Injun an are just putting off the training, no offense Injun, but everytime they say it I think of you luv, lol.
We have been w/o a qualcome for over 2 weeks. On the plus side lol no one knows where we are, an apparently dont know where we shut down etc, but are back on paper logs, on the minus we hafta call in all the macros, including all fuelstops. Oh did I mention, when it goes down, you are supposed to know what time you started your day how many stops ya made since it went down etc. Cause when it comes back up you hafta add it all back in, which if anyone has tried it yet is a pain in the *^%!
This time tho, cause we have been so long without it, we will start from scratch, doing both paper/elog for 8 days.
I really encourage those who are holding out to jump in cause getting used to it takes time. Also the key we have found is, as soon as you hit your tractor brake at a stop immediately change your duty status on qualcom.
Injun and scottied67 Thank this. -
I'm holding out. I was just inside of a guy's brand new T660 and they drilled 4 holes in his dash to mount this thing. Also I don't want this thing cutting into a great song to talk to me over the speakers. I don't want it to talk at all, I can read it when stopped just like now.
This driver who is a 23 year old mentor who has been with Swift OTR for 3 years now and second lease was telling me about a 2.5 day trip that the government deleted from his records because he took a load out of NORAD Mountain over to Andrews AFB.He never felt a forklift or anything enter the trailer but they did weld the doors shut and welded some chains and cables around the doors as well. Then they hooked a computer up to his truck and turned off his governor, he had 2 black government SUVs armed and bulletproofed leading and following him up to 100 miles an hour the whole way. They called ahead and cleared out the entire trucks stops where he stayed and fed him and put him up in hotels til he was ready to drive again. So the trip was wiped by DOT and if you go back on his elogs it shows hometime for those days. This guy has a very high security clearance; he knows stuff even the President doesn't know. The load it turns out was one single CD with the nuclear launch codes for the United States. -

American TruckerTazz Thanks this. -
Nope, I do not believe this one.
They would not ship something on a common carrier where they have to weld the doors shut. It would be too obvious, also if it is escorted it would not make sense to waste the time doing it.
Also the doors are harder to get thru than the sides, which are easy.
Also, you cannot get that high of clearance when not directly working as a contractor or in the military. No truck driver would be able to maintain that clearance. Plus he is 23 and driving for 3 years (I am guessing he must be 24 since you cannot drive OTR till 21). Which means that he was not in the service, unless it is guard or reserves.
That CD would not be shipped on a truck eather. It would be on a military aircraft with a full escort.
Good story though.scottied67, biker dave and capthook Thank this. -
Uh huh. Sounds like a tall trucker tale to me Scottied...
scottied67 Thanks this.
