Ok for the past couple weeks or so been getting messages on qulcom about usa needing trainers first question is why are all the trainers leaving and second is would any of the current drivers become trainers?
I talked to the training dept yesterday its sounds alright!
But the reason i am considering becomming a trainer is I am seeing alot of new drivers out there that should not even be on the road!
Let me explain I was at a shipper the other night I pulled in and there was another usa driver trying to back into the dock(a simple pull around angle the trailer and almost straight back to the dock) well he almost hit a truck and the driver when he got out to help him back in 35 mins later of trying to back it in the driver got out of his truck all flustered and screamed i can not do this the other driver not a usa driver backed it into the dock for him! Big time NO NO! I asked the usa driver how long he had been with usa he said he was on his 3rd week alone! Of course he had a brand new freightliner 10 speed! Go figure! He then tells me his trainer did most of the backing he did not do alot! To me this guy should not be out here on the road! I would not become a trainer for the money but to make sure these students are trained right have the basics of driving backing safety before i let them off my truck if not they would be booted from my truck
So would any other drivers become trainers?
USA needing trainers would u or would u not!

Me? I don't think so. I'm still learning the ropes myself, even after a year and a half. Until I get my own crap straight and can serve as a reliable example to someone else, I think it would be a joke to consider me competent enough to "train" a newer driver.

I worked for USA for about a month. My trainer had me do a decent amount of backing, but that was phase 1. My phase 2 trainer? He informed me that I would be driving first. I agreed not realizing he meant all night. I was on the bus for the previous day and a half, so I definitely was not rested at all. I was so exhausted I could barely see straight. I was let go the following day for being unsafe, and yes, they put that on my DAC. How nice of them!

If you identified the problem (lack of sleep) to your trainer and they "made" you drive anyway, one phone call to your driver liason would have cured that.
Here's the lesson: Your the captain when you have charge of the vessel, act like the captain, for safety sake!Ridinwithpride Thanks this. -

My trainer was well aware, but didn't care. Getting his delivery/pick-up was all that mattered. Phone call? It was past midnight on a Sunday, the only contact I had was a training coordinator.

this is how i see it, USA Truck typicaly gets the bottom of the barrel new drivers....do you really want a crack head in your truck? alone while your inside the TS.......
Do you want to put your life in their hands while you sleep?

I saw those messages and talked to a few trainers. There are many that are not happy with the little extra pay they get and the lack of miles some of them get. My god, they are trainers and run teams. If you can't keep them moving, who can you keep moving. Also, I saw some of the drivers I was in upgrade with, and was surprised a month or so later that they still could not back straight into a dock.
I was in Roanoke VA, 2 weeks after I upgraded and the safety director(the guy in the pic for the in cab scanners...yeah him) for Phoenix was there for his training. He came out and got 3 of us and wanted us to do some backing exercises, doing the 12/9. So I was picked first, and had to do one pull up. Then the other 2 guys went and had to do 4-5 pullups. Then the safety dir. decides to try it. I thought he's been driving for a few years, he should get it in there pretty easy. So he does about 6-7 pullups and gets frustrated. Pulls out and goes around the lot again. Comes back and gets it in 4-5. Holy crap, this guy is the safety director, and has been driving at least 1 year I'd hope and can't do a simple 12/9.
Either way, if you don't expect to make a lot of money and can be happy just making sure only good drivers get through, then I think you will be a great trainer and happy. If you expect to make a lot more, and just want to do it for the cash, then I think you would be highly disappointed. I honestly couldn't trust some of those people behind the wheel while I am awake, much less if I were asleep.
Good luck if you do decide to go with it.Ridinwithpride Thanks this. -
P.S. There has to be a reason all the trainers are quitting and USA is in bad need of more...Just sayin'

A trainer should not be ran as a team. If he or she is not in the seat next to the trainee how are they teaching them anything?
That is one thing that Schneider has going for them that is right. If the trainer is asleep the trainee is sleeping too. If the trainer is caught sleeping while the trainee is driving he or she will be fired.
