I got another issue explained to me by my dm and then my terminal manager. I was at the terminal for homtime today and was explained why i was moved dms. As alot of you remember swift has started slip seating some trucks when you go home. I was put on a fleet that does that. The requirements was to live near the termial, and have low miles.
After I explained that I just moved away, and My miles are only low do to my weeks and weeks of shop time. I was told I did not have to stay on the family plan fleet.
I however decided to stay on it for the time being. It is actually when you think about it a good idea. Its modeled for drivers that want more hometime without pressure of going back quickly. With this when you come home you can take a week or 2 off without issue. Due to my current moving and whatnot, I turned In my crap truck and said later when family issues and such are over I will want to come off this special fleet and keep my truck and run hard again.
but this is a good plan for some drivers out there. I hope I explained it well, I can try better if yall have questions, It was a very long talk with my dm and terminal manager and I learned quite a bit.

I am going to Swift Sept 12 for oreintation at Edwardsville KS, so you only have to be on family play if you live close and low miles, I am a recent grad and hoping after training I get a truck.
I want get my own truck and run and take 2 or 3 days off and go back out I want to make money not be be forced to give up truck and wait a week to go back out.
Any more info on this Family plan would be great. -
What is the "family plan?"
-
It was explained in the first post. Basically slip seating which is where you'll be going out a few days running loads, then coming back to home terminal and cleaning out the truck for the next driver to take it for a few days. Then you go home and wait for the call that there is a new truck available from another driver returning it in for his/her hometime.
It's a win win for the driver who likes to stay home a lot and the company who gets a truck rolling to pay the bills. Swift didn't buy these trucks to park them.DenaliDad Thanks this. -
Thanks, scottied67. The first post wasn't as clear as you just made it.scottied67 Thanks this.

I know some companies do a program with 2 weeks out and 1 week home. Is that how this works? I am a bit confused by the above esplanations.

There are a couple of different options, the 2 out and 1 home is one of them.

Roehl is like that. They have 14/14 and 14/7, I think. And yes, it is slip seating and park the truck in their yard for the next driver.

If they can solve the situation of having to wait an additional week to get into another truck it would be a very attractive option for someone as family oriented as me. Even 3 weeks out and 1 off would be nice.
