Hey Al! How's things??
I agree, and I should have put a bit of a disclaimer on my earlier post, however, for someone who needs to attend a company sponsored training program AND they live in Florida, the choices are very limited. If that scenario is true, they're going to have to do what they have to do and just suck it up for a good year - minimum.
Which ever company that driver chooses, they should do everything humanly possible to stay with that company for a solid year. Once that is done, pleanty of doors will open up.
I called Schenider about 2 months ago checking for someone else and they weren't hiring in Florida at that time. They may now be - so I'd definately add them to the list.
Thanks!!

If you don't like driving for these guys your not going to like driving for anyone. They have not made any promises to me, I just keep my head down and do my job, in return I get treated more than fare. Good luck finding something better.

I have been on a couple blanket wrap loads, they pay better and you just simply fold the blankets. The majority of the freight has been dock to dock no touch.

We've tried a few companies in the past five years that we have lived down here in Florida like SRT, Lessors, J&R Schugel. The one that has come through for us is JBS Carriers.
My ol' man is making .40 mile and a lot of there loads are multi stops and large dead head miles. You have to do the ergo test, they check to see if your neck is 18 inches or over and they have electronic logs. Oh! They also pay every two weeks.
They not only own a trucking company but their own meat packing companies (they just bought out pilgrims pride) so they wont run out of freight unless they whole country goes vegetarian. So far this company has been pretty good.
If you live in Florida then you know that most trucking companies have a policy that they don't hire below I 4 which sucks. It's extremely hard to find a good company to work with in Florida.
When my ol' man went to work with JBS they flew him out to Denver Colorado (Just think no riding a bus for days just to get to training). He had to share a room at a motel but that is not out of the norm. Most of the guys at the end of the training got into brand new Kenworth trucks (sorry but I can't remember the model number right now). My husband got a Peterbilt ( If I remember correctly they are trying to get apu's on all the trucks) and his first run was over 400 miles empty and over a 1000 mile loaded. He hadn't seen miles like that in a couple of years so it was nice. His first check was $1600 and his next one wont be as high cause he took 4 days off here recently but still it felt great to get a paycheck that was big enough to make a dent in our overdue bills.
I wish we would have known about they from the start of the fall of the economy! We wouldn't have struggled as much and wouldn't be playing catch up now.
Go check out JBS Carriers! -
last week they said they stopped hiring in florida.
today, they are running ads all over florida, begging for drivers.......
go figure !! -
Well... maybe I'll call them then, my new job turned out to be worse then my old job!!! Truck issues, lack of response from bosses... woohoo... gotta love it!!! Oh yeah, 400 miles loads that you wait all day for to deliver first thing... fun....
I had heard JBS was done hiring Florida too but... one will hope!!! -
I heard we are not hiring anybody south of I-20 right now, but it couldn't hurt to give JBS a call and confirm that!
jlind Thanks this. -
Well we came in with JBS at the end of last month so maybe they have stopped hiring in FL. I would still fill out an app though cause you just never know.
jlind Thanks this. -
