What the *$%& are you talking about, Neal? Stop by the terminal and pick up another driver. Make it a team truck. Each of you can drive 60mph, even in a Swift truck. That adds up to 120mph. More than enough time to run that load!

Know what this reminds me of? Have you ever had a friend sniff something and rear back yelling about how much it stinks, and then they tell you "smell that!" so you do and then you do some yelling of your own about how much it stinks?

Don't sniff the Plus One, Injun! It stinks!
Injun, inkeper, scottied67 and 1 other person Thank this. -
My PTA was set for 0300 the other morning. So I got up around 2300 and played on the internet, walked Abby etc, nothing came through load wise so went back to bed by 0200. By 0530 they sent me a load, 80 miles empty, 240 loaded deliver by 1100. Still in my pajamas, didn't feel like jumping up marine corps style and rushing to get this JIT load. I got my coffee, pretrip, walk the dog, then they beep beep me 'are you going to get this trip you committed to?' I never committed to it. I never turned it down either though. Now they are calling me begging me to go get it, no service failure we promise. Customer is mad at CSR, she tells me do what I can to smooth it out with them lol. When I got there at 2100 (rescheduled del time) they acted like they didn't know where to put the product.
I can't afford to do these rush rush jobs any more, I'm on my second ticket and will only be doing slam dunk loads from now on.Shardrk Thanks this. -
Ok do have to give credit to the planners this time. I'm up for hometime today and have 7am del about 90 miles away, figuring I'll end up just deadheading from there. They actually got me one more load picking up this afternoon and delivering about 20 miles away from home so I make about 80 extra miles that I would have driven anyways, including the mt ones and the $25 short trip pay and get home right on time. Only thing that sucks about it is my pickup is at 1330 and I'm about 4 hours early getting here so sit and wait but things could be worse.
scottied67 Thanks this. -
Injun, with this command of logic you have been blessed with you need to be a load planner or better yet...run for national public office.
I got a very heartly chuckle out of that. Thanks so much!
With so many comments here on having to send Macro 22's to insure no SF, I would hope and pray that Swift is realizing that Plus One will need major modifications, but it sounds like if it was programmed right it would be a good thing for drivers to keep them moving. It also weeds out drivers who take an 800 mile load with 2.5 days to get it there and barely make it on time or are late. In all honesty, that was a very common thing when I was with Swift.
On those loads, unless it specifically said don't show up early, I would either the receiver and try to get an earlier drop/unload or just show up at the guard shack and play stupid driver. "Oh crap...I am a day early. Well...any way I can get unloaded since I'm here? I don't mind waiting." It worked more than I can tell you. Plus One sounds like it would have good benefits if it is tuned up correctly.inkeper, Injun and scottied67 Thank this. -
Hmm plus 1 what the hell is that? I have been so busy the past six weeks I am missing out on something. I know the Pplans have changed and I have noticed that I hardly ever get any sleep any more since the change.
I have also noticed times change after accepting a load. I guess I should watch the vids that where sent to me so I may understand what the heck it's all about.
I know one thing they have been running me hard every since the change..scottied67 Thanks this. -
According to my DM this is what they are trying to get rid of and thats fine by me. It is also trying to eliminate loads where people try to take it but no way do they have the hours to do it. Sadly these drivers are probably the same ones I see sitting at the terminals all the time complaining they don't get any miles.
Honestly I do think its a good idea, I just think whoever programed the computer to calculate how long it should take to get somewhere has never driven a truck. If they just changed it to assume 55mph and maybe add an extra hour for each day for tings like fuel and quick breaks it would still keep things pretty tight but also be more reasonable for most runs. Only time I would see problems then is pulling a heavy load up mountains.
Right now it seems to assume 60 mph, no stopping, exactly a 10 hour break and uses the paid miles not actual miles.
I sent one in the other day and get a msg from after hours asking why I was late even though I put my reason in the macro. I was tempted to reply, "I got stopped at 2 redlights before getting back on the highway" but I was nice and gave him the real reason of having to chase an mt for 3 hours. Quite honestly I don't think the office staff quite understands how this works. I send a mac 22 and then get told I'm not late, there is a window of all day or turn down a load and then get asked why, its a 24 hour window. Well thats not what it is telling me so I cma.
Oh and the videos in typical Swift fashion tell you nothing about what plus one is exactly or how it works so don't bother. Just corporate hype about how this new system is so great but nothing explaining exactly what it is. The one I found most interesting was the one meant for the office staff, you have to search for it on Swift U, its not on the front page. The other interesting thing is they "tested" this with a Sears dedicated fleet out of the Columbus terminal. I'm not suprised it worked well for them, not much traffic in OH except rush hour in a few cities, flat ground for the most part, and with drivers who probably have been to the same stores 100's of times, yeah that means its good to go for OTR.Last edited: Oct 27, 2011
scottied67 and inkeper Thank this. -
If a Swift 'suit' comes up and shoves a paparazzi type camera in your face and asks you how you like the new program at Swift, where your bread is buttered lol, you'll say "oh yeah, Plus 1 is the best thing since sliced bread"...
Someone may have said it already-- Plus 1 stands for 1 extra load per week per driver. They tried to bring this out last year if you'll recall. They asked each driver to drive so many miles extra per week. I guess no volunteers came forward.
I'm all for more miles. Where are they going to come from when you sit for 10-12 hours after emptying out every time? My opinion freight has been slow all year.I'm considering shaking things up and hiring a driver to team up with me in the new year. -
I heard your old mentor might be available
scottied67 Thanks this. -
LMAO.....Inkeper, you are just not a nice guy...
inkeper Thanks this.
