I got a letter in the Mail today from the NC DOT. It says;
Dear Andrew,
In accordance with the federal motor carrier safety administration 49 CFR 383, 384, 390, and 391, effective January 30, 2012, all commercial drivers license holders subject to the physical qualification requirements of the federal motor carrier regulations are required to provide a current origional or copy of their medical examiners certificate, federal drivers licenseing agency (SDLA). Other conforming requirments are also implemented, such as issuance of a federal variance and/or skills performance evaluation (SPE).
As a result of this mandate, commercial driver license holders, who are subject to a federal variance, are required to appear in person at their local driver license office and apply for a duplicate license reflecting the appropriate restrictions and/or endorsements.
Failure to comply with the above requirements can result in the downgradeing of a commercial drivers license and possible cancellation of all driving privileges. If you no longer wish to drive a commercial motor vehical, you will need to appear at your local driver license office to downgrade your commercial driver license.

So If i'm reading this right, they are saying i have to take time out of my life, go to the DMV, stand in line for 8 hours, to show them my DOT Physical Long Form and Card, and then apply AND PAY for a Duplicate CDL???????????
WTF!

(2) Existing CDL holders. By January 30, 2014, provide the State with an original or copy (as required by the State) of a current medical examiner's certificate prepared by a medical examiner, as defined in 49 CFR 390.5, and the State will post a certification status of "certified" on CDLIS driver record for the driver. If the non-excepted, interstate CDL holder fails to provide the State with a current medical examiner's certificate, the State will post a certification status of "not-certified" in the CDLIS driver record for the driver, and initiate a CDL downgrade following State procedures in accordance with section 383.73(j)(4);
Well you may have 2 years if I'm reading this right. Not sure if i am. -
Failure to comply (showing up) can result in downgrading the license. So doing nothing can get the downgrade.
If you wish to downgrade you must show up lol and request downgrade, or, fail to show up (comply).
###### if you do ###### if you don't.American-Trucker Thanks this. -
Been in the cards for some time now. Had to produce my med card when I got my license renewed in September.
Oh, yeah... its not a one time deal. Everytime you get a new medical... you get to do it again.American-Trucker Thanks this. -
We've had to file long form physical in Arizona for years and if you don't they WILL suspend your CDL. Don't know what the duplicate license thing is about. Sounds like some gubment beauracrat falling all over themselves trying to keep themselves in a job & out smarting themselves at the same time.
last 1 and Mommas_money_maker Thank this. -
