Also watch what they hire you for vs. what you do, when and how much.
Was hired to run as a feeder driver to pull doubles, since I wanted some experience in that area. Ended up being a bait and switch, since all they needed were yard jockeys.
Started four weeks later than I was told then laid off a week early.
Not a bad job once I was there, but there was a lot of shady stuff going on and you really had to watch your back. Worst of all was the totally pompass attitude they had about how they were doing me a favor by letting me work there for a month.
However, I am convinced that it led to the great job I have now, so it was worth it.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Did you have to constantly remind them of their promises in order to get them to fulfill them or did they just eventually go ahead and fulfill them without you having to say anything?
-
When I took the job I was about 22 years old - at the end of the day the pay wasnt great but I knew it was temporary and having UPS down in the job history column never hurts. As one poster said they are convinced it helped them get the job they have now.
-
Really? I was making $14.50 an hour in 1994 loading feeder trailers at the DFW air hub. That was good money back then. I would have figured the pay had gone up considerably over the years.
-
Yep, really.
-
Way it looks the pay depends where you live, here in Florida its $8.50 hr,back in my home state of PA,its $9.50 or use to be anyway.

Never did get an accurate paycheck. Boss wouldn't even talk to me about it.
Thing was that they weren't always short, sometimes they were over, but the numbers seemed to have just come from thin air and had no basis in reality. Ended up averaging out, and I walked away with about 6 extra hours in overtime and an hourly wage well above what I was promised. -
I'm glad things worked out for you. So what are you doing now? What is better than UPS feeders?
-
whats with people not wanting to work for 7-8 dollars an hour?
i worked for that for a while, sure it don't get you no where but at least you can pay the rent, better than being homeless.
get used to low wage service jobs, as that's the only jobs being created in america.Boonie and 7122894003481 Thank this. -
While I was hired as a feeder, the job was actually for a yard jockey. Not a bad job for $16-something an hour, but my only chance to stay on was loading trucks for $8 an hour. Didn't seem like a good job choice with my qualifications.
Nowadays I run a dedicated route for UPS Freight truckload. Pull 2100 miles a week with some good stop pay, being home on weekends and only working 4 1/2 days a week.Boonie Thanks this.
