they won't. it seems to be the policy of usa truck to leave you as far from home as possible. they will tell you to take your truck to a frieghtliner or international dealer where you will be told to leave it.... no matter where you are. if you do not leave it they will report it as stolen even if you are on route to your delivery point. they take an employee quitting very personal.

I was reading this old thread just now. This is the 3rd time to do so. I am not sure about the past, but I know of several people that has worked 2 week notices. All of them were asked the reason for quitting, all was worked to their home terminal where they cleaned the trucks out and turned in the keys. I know of none that have negative information on their DACs. When I was terminated at the Roanoke Terminal the company offered me a Greyhound ticket home, I had a friend coming to get me so I declined it. USA did not put any information on my DAC other then I had been fired and no reason was listed my rehire was listed as reviewable. Just saying, if you are a current driver thinking about quitting, discuss the problem with FM and if you do quit work out a notice, turn the truck in a terminal and walk away. USA Truck is not going to put negative information on your DAC unless it's deserved. I think this advice would also apply to most of the other companies out there as well.

I did not give a 2 week notice. I spoke to my FM on the phone, confirmed our conversation via e-mail (its as good as QC), drove my truck to Vandalia (it was clean) and turned it in to the terminal manager. I was given a receipt that showed I turned in my truck in good working order. I did this 9/20/2011 so the information is pretty fresh.
Nothing negative on my DAC or any other fallout. In fact, I have been re-hired and return to work 12/26/2011.
I did not have ANY incidents while at USA, I wanted to leave and left the company in a reasonable manner. If you do the same I suspect you will find your situation as smooth as I found mine.
Good luck in your new venture..... -
Nothing negative was on my DAC either. I didn't leave as "smooth" as goodchoice did either. I didn't get a receipt from the terminal manager in Vandalia due to the shop being closed by the time I got back to the shop. Left the keys in the truck (emptied and cleaner then when I got it 2 days earlier), left and got a call from my FM a little over a week later.

My story is a little different. I was still in training when I left. Had some issues with my trainer, so I was sent home to wait for another trainer. While at home, my father passed away and I was unable to complete my training at that time. I emailed my training coordinator and let her know what was going on. She stated that I would be terminated but, since I was professional and remained in contact with her, that I would be listed as eligible for rehire. I started another job a few weeks ago and my DAC showed nothing negative.
I can't tell you what you should do, but I recommend completely cleaning out your truck and letting your FM know as soon as possible. I can't guarantee it, but if you do it professionally you may avoid any negative remarks on your DAC and possibly be able to come back if you needed to.
I experienced good and bad while at USA. And yes, I did go through Driver Solutions so I am on the line for paying back the entire $6000. But, with USA being a starter company, I didn't come in expecting much.
Good luck with everything!
