"As for as USA Truck goes, I pray daily things there get better. There are many people in Van Buren that deserve no less. I'm of the opinion this won't happen with Clif Beckham at the helm, but I hope I am wrong."

    Really?? Pray daily for USA?

What about the employees from Ohio, and all the other places across this land? Don't we deserve "no less" too? That's assuming that ole cliffy doesn't start administering the "kool aid" before we have a chance to save ourselves.

I only looked at that USA Truck CSA score once, I want to remember the only one that was high was the driver fatigue one. This one can also be a bit misleading because things like form and manner are included on this score. I say this because I know of several drivers that have got log book tickets and got long formed because of simple things like their lines not being continuous on the graph. I doubt a driver can be said to be running dangerous simply because he failed to join his lines on the logbook. I think over the last year USA Truck has done a great job of reducing the OOS orders arising from state inspections. Some of the new Trailers have helped in this.

Thanks for that info. I guess I better walk back that last statement. According to that information (if I am reading it right) roadside inspections is actually getting a bit worse.

Well, that's one of the sticky points for me. We don't seem to have as much of a problem with the tractors; it's actually the trailers which have been getting drivers into trouble. Rare to see a 59 series (our newest) - those are like gold because you know they won't get you busted on a DOT inspection; you feel fortunate to get a 58 through 55 series. But 54 and 53 series are (still) quite common in the fleet and, for some reason I can't comprehend, 52 and and some 51 series are also still in circulation. 54's will sometimes have issues, but I can't remember the last time I ended up with a 53, 52 or 51 which didn't have something wrong with it (causing me to either go to a service center or terminal). For some reason the USA maintenance policy seems to be, "put some aluminum tape over it and send it out the door!"

That's got to change if those CSA scores are to come down. Getting these busted trailers is what taught me to take my pre-trips a lot more seriously.

During my time there I did not have any serious problems with the trailers, my problems was always the tractors.

You forgot that there are still some LP trailers running around as well.

When I was driving for USA I'd sometimes rather have a 54/55 series (greatdane) trailer then a 57 series. To me the 57 series were the worst, not sure why but I never had any luck. Now the new 58/59 series aren't bad for now, but I can see them being torn up quickly.

My best "old" trailer was a 53 trailer. Picked it up at Budweiser in Columbus... Everything was redone, frame was completely re-coated, new doors, new lights, etc... One problem was that all the brakes were out of adjustment so that they weren't working at all. It was like they never adjusted them after replacing the brakes or something... An hour later I was back on the road.

The refurbished 53's are pretty solid, no argument there. Not sure about the 58's and 59's getting torn up too quickly, though; seeing anyone hauling one of those is like catching a Bigfoot sighting, they can't be seeing much use. I sometimes wonder if they're being hoarded by a particular group or fleet.
