OK so I'm driving along yesterday all's good in the hood, then all of a sudden an alarm goes off saying 'Switch to Paper Logs!!" So I keeps on driving no worries but the next time I pull over I see the drive line is blue (good) from when I started to the alarm, then red (bad) til it turned blue again. I'm on the first 8 days paper trick right now anyway but what if this happens next week or next month for example and Mr. Leo wants to see my last 8 days elogs and sees red, I'm busted for $2700+ bucks!
On a good note I was able to go into the guts of the thing and mute out all the speakers so it does not talk to me any more. I tried that 'read to me' feature while driving the other day, turns out it was the O/O fuel price list and she went on for like 10 minutes reading each terminal and fuel price I was like "uh uh, never again, if they want me to read it, it will have to wait til i pull over next time."

The biggest thing for me to remember, switch from Off-Duty to Sleeper. Always seem to forget to do that. Then when I remember, have to get up, turn on the truck and wait for it to load up, then switch.
-
yeah,i been doing that too,or am in the sleeper the whole time, but do i really need to switch it to off duty everytime i have to use the bathroom?
-
Hey has everybody been doing the dvir, every single night? what happens if you don't? i am sure i allready know..............safety hold?that is a long pita macro to fill out, shoud be a few keystrokes and thats it,maybe they will change that!
Cochise Thanks this. -
Or, you could just leave it and edit in the sleeper time later.
-
Somebody jump in to correct me if I'm wrong here ... but it really doesn't seem to make any difference between lines 1 and 2. "Off Duty" is Off Duty. Unless you're working on a split sleeper berth break, I'm not sure anybody really cares where you spent your ten hours. I'm sure not going to bother to switch every time I get up to go to the bathroom! I once spoke to an O/O who had been on e-logs for about six months who told me all he EVER uses is line 1, line 3, and line 5. I frequently just left it on line 1 for the whole night and nobody ever said a word to me about it. The computer sure doesn't care. You get your 10-hr reset regardless of what line you're on as long as it is not lines 3 or 4.
-
Been elogs 'bout 6 months too.
70% of the time leave it on line 1 for 10.
Just forget or whatever. Doesn't seem to really matter.
Never heard a word.
Guess if DOT knocked on your door while in sleeper and on line 1 it
could technically be an issue.
Sure can't hurt to do it right though.
Also, started filling out the dvir a few months ago everyday.
Takes like 30 seconds.
Figured better safe than sorry, 'cause *that* form actually matters to the DOT officer
should he want to see it, and to CYA in case of an accident ect.Cochise Thanks this. -
That is the issue. Get audited by DOT and all that they see is Off Duty, they are going to wonder, when to you sleep, and if you say hotel, then, where are the receipts.
-
Its best to show some sleeper time. In a compliance review, all line 1 and no line 2 time can be taken as evidence of submitting false logs. That is a federal felony count.
Cochise Thanks this.
