I have a tentative date of starting at FTA on Jan 23rd, with a potential pre hire for USA. Just looking for some feedback on the school and company. I know that this is not the best company in the world and I'm sure its not the worst either. It is what it is and I will use it to help me in my quest to get my licence, put my time in and hopefully gain enough experience and move to a company that pays better in the future. I also know that a company is largely what you make it. So if all u wish to do is trash it like there is nothing closer to hell on earth than this company please do not comment. I am aware that all companies have their good and bad points. Just looking for an honest assessment of what I am in store for. I would like to know the goods and the bad. If all you know is nothing but bad please keep it to yourself as I KNOW that there is good and bad in everything in life. Thank you for your time and valuable responses.

    School I don't know...

For USA... just read the threads and you can get everyones views on the subject. Granted most posts are most likely either neutral or negative, there are also some that are positive. But the members here are a very small percentage of the drivers on the road.

USA Truck is what it is, a starter company. Put your time in and do as most do, leave! Unless of course you find you like it and driving for them suits you. USA Truck is not as bad as some make it out to be, and not as good as others try to make it out to be either. The only problem I can see is inept management and piss poor maintenance. They have a good customer base and you don't usually have to do a lot of waiting at shippers and finals. Most of the fleet managers are good, but according to some reports I hear there are some that not so good. There are some fine people that work for USA Truck, seek them out and they will help you if you get into a jam.

I'm not sure if you are paying for school up front or not but I can tell you my husband went to Cross Country in Thomasville, NC and a friend of our went to FTA. They did it at the same time. Friend got out of school with a lot less knowledge then hubby. Friend went to USA and after a month ran. He no longer wants anything to do with trucking. Cross Country was cheaper and covered soooo much more. They had extensive training on logs, mapping/routing you actually got a lot of behind the wheel day and night. I believe you got to pull different things box, flatbed. I don't think tankers. They had recruiters coming in all the time from top companies so you aren't locked in to a "starter "company Hubby is now with Maverick pulling flatbed and loving it.

thanks, i have to go with a company that pays for my training, very short on capital and need to go somewhere as soon as possible. I used to work for a moving company about 17 yrs ago, so im not completely ignorant on what to do just have to get back into the swing of things, been a while and im sure alot has changed. I will do my time, earn my stripes, take my lumps and get the very valuable otr experience that is needed so i can write my own ticket in a year or so. thanks for all the info.

is the condition of the trucks as bad as everyone makes them out to be, i seem to see some more newer trucks on the road lately. I plan of scrubbing whatever truck i get with in an inch of its life anyway, i like to be clean. but as far as mechanical, are they that ratty?

Usa is a starter co. like mentioned before. You can make it whatever u want it ti be. Do I have a prob with upper management? Yes I do. Do I have a prob with maintenance shops? Yes. Do I have good working relationship with my fm. Yes. Do I yell and get beligerent? No. am I tired of the direction the company has went since early last summer, HELL YES!!!

Good luck on the truck u get. Its a crap shoot, but if u r gonna scrub it, at lrast it will b a polished turd, instead of a dirty one.
