Madras, OR for the night. Had an interesting day, Woodland, CA. In street waiting to turn into shipper with left turn signal blinking and engine running. One truck in drive (only room for 1). Truck in opposite lane waiting to enter. He was next. First truck enters, truck enters off street, I am next to enter when available. Loud rap on passenger door. I roll down window, and what to my wandering eyes appears??????? Officer Chips asking why I was parked in a no parking zone. It was posted "No parking any time". I informed him that I was waiting my turn to enter to get my load, but I was third in line and there was not an alternative other than to keep driving around the block. He demanded my license, logs, medical and registration. On elogs so I demonstrated the verbal time remaining to drive feature: 10 hours, 33 minutes left.
He proceeds to conduct level 3 and issues me a warning for not obeying a posted sign........WHAT AN ARSE! This was a city street in an industrial area with several nearby warehouses with dozens of trucks in and out regularly. Streets are wide with plenty of room to pass. I was not parked, I was being held up by traffic. sheeesh![]()

JimBob, there's a guy named Dave Sweetman, well known, used to write a column for one of the trucker rags. He's an o/o for Horseless Carriage, which is a high-value enclosed carhauler. He moved from SoCal to Florida because the local cops kept trying to tow his rig which was parked, with permission, in an industrial area. Once, ok, a mistake. Twice, well maybe. But it kept happening, and only the fact that his truck was alarmed allowed him to stop the tow. After it was apparent that no phone call or meeting was ever going stop it, he packed up and took his significant income elsewhere. Because he realized he wasn't seen as a tax-paying asset, nor a vital link in the local economy, but merely as a revenue source.
JimBob24 and HeWhoMustNotBeNamed Thank this. -
I used to really look forward to his column in that rag. I remember he wrote one about dropping Elizabeth Taylor's car at some fancy place in NYC and was invited in to attend the function. As a joke he did like all the rest of the crowd and handed his Truck keys to the parking attendant and said "Roadranger 18 speed" with a big smile on his face. Good author. Miss his articles. Smart guy.
