Well for this haul, it is Produce from B.C to Toronto then Frozen Meat on the way back to B.C. Would I still want to incorporate trailer brakes?

cheap is a relative term. Depends on what your overhead is.
someone with low overhead can make a good living off of what you would consider cheapLast edited by a moderator: Nov 13, 2014

cheap is cheap forget overhead thats a cost of doing business and last i checked it takes 1.80mile just to break even on most trucks. difference between 6mpg and 7mpg is only .10 cents a mile and most drivers will not drive for under .40 cets a mile, new trucks add .65mi maintanence .15,etc etc.best thing to do is not be cheap if they cant find someone they call you back and give u what u want. oh btw anything under 2.5mi gross all miles is cheap if your running under that you are a ###### business person.

That's not a very intelligent response. Everybody has the same costs. Whether you're running a 15 year old truck with zero note and no collision insurance or a brand new truck with 120k financed and the best insurance package money can buy, you should be running at rates that will support either, as well as at minimum $1,000 week salary and running at least 40 weeks/year, and still accumulating wealth for business upgrade investment. Good grief. And then we wonder why.
It's not about the overhead, it's about what the market will bare and what little some are willing to give away their investment and labor for because they're only thinking about the current month (or week). If we only needed to rate our services for what we wanted to or could invest, we'd be living in a world that looked much like trucking in Guatemala. -
No sir there is some truth to.variable expenses my trucks cost about 1.25 for me to run including driver pay and maint so yes i can afford to take a lower rate at times in a bad area or just to make sure i keep promises made to my driver ,,,,i average right at 1.68 a mile all miles so there is room granted numbers look better now and suck in winter.but we all operate on an average not just a good week ....,
