Was pulled over on 610 south after exiting I-10 on the east side at market st Houston has there own dot inforsment when he said follow him i didn't know what was going on I made me follow him a few miles down the road when I stoped I seen 8 more trucks with red tags on there window
He got out the truck with gloves and a DOT book in his hand and got his creeper out I knew I was in trumble he checked everything I have been inspected atleast 20 times before but this guy don't let anything get passed him he checked every bolt nut and lug nut but I have never seen them check the tire pressure in tires ever before
He gave me a waning for a under inflated tire that was only 5psi lower than the tire next to it is this legal? Where in the Dot book does it say this at I could see 20psi but 5?

Not just Houston driver, to the East, Pasadena and Laporte all would like to share in your bountiful revenue....to the South, Shoreacres and Seabrook......
Glad you passed..... -
Ya I know that but tire pressure?
-
You should have made him write you a citation so that you could fight it. As I understand it, you can't fight a warning, and you get CSA points for it?
I see nothing here:
http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/administration/fmcsr/fmcsrruletext.aspx?reg=393.75
that mentions pressure differential between tires as a violation. You also could have asked him to quote the regulation that was violated. -
Think that's why he did a warning

Nice, they give local cops a crash course in DOT regs and turn them loose on the trucking world. Instead of complimenting a driver whose rig is up to par, they feel the need to find SOMETHING that's wrong. Therein lies the problem with CSA, instead of rooting out the really bad players, they wind up tarnishing the record of companies and drivers for petty things that would have little to no impact on the safety of the rig.
And a 5 psi difference has got to be the most petty thing to write anything about. Was was the pressure anyways, since there's a debate on what the pressure should be in drive/trailer duals? -
First thing I would have done is ask to see his credentials qaulifying him to do the inspection. There is nothing about 5psi except pressure build up explained. I would have never signed the report either I would have got my copy of regs online and looked it up and asked for a supervisor to come out.
If nothing else he would be tied up with me and everone else would get a free pass that day. I love to read rules with the police what they going to do kill me?scottied67 Thanks this. -
Or maybe you should have grabbed your tire gauge & went to check HIS tires. You may not have found a 5 psi variance, but you definitely would have percentage wise.
-
I have one of those 50' air hoses with the glad hand, offer to top off all your tires and make it 'right'. Personally, I would have not signed that warning and would rather go to jail over a 5psi difference that I have the ability to fix on the spot. This guy wants to be ridiculous? I got it times 10 baby.
And when the other Shawshanker killers ask me what I 'didn't do' to get in there, I can proudly say I am there because I almost killed people for lack of 5psi on 1 tire.Last edited: Apr 15, 2012
skellr Thanks this. -
Does he have to show those credentials if asked? And if you asked for the supervisor to come out and he said no, then what? And if you didnt sign the report, then what? Do they take you to jail? Do they take away your CDL, what happens?
What are the legal ramifications for all of your advice?
