Got to Quaker Oats for my delivery early this morning and, after the usual pleasantries, the guy asked me if I wanted a cup of strong, fresh brewed coffee that I smelled as soon as I walked in. I kissed him.

For the first time since I went solo I am sitting waiting for a pplan. Anyone know the planner's name and phone/extension number for Eastern Kansas? I am more than willing to beg like a Beagle!

At the Flying J, Salina, KS. Last time I was here (in Salina) was in 1975 going west from NJ to CA with a U-Haul, wife, two kids and two cats. (The dog got to fly.) It's ironic that that truck and the one I drive now both had/have governors. At least the current truck is 7mph faster. They have a Huddle House here and this is the first time I've eaten at one; it was really good.

    UPDATE:
Just got and accepted a pplan to deadhead down to Wichita, KS to load at 2pm tomorrow bound for Columbus, OH with a 2am delivery Monday. The delivery time sux bigtime but the 1k miles, including empty, doesn't. Whohoo!!!! I get to eat steak at the Huddle House tonight and sleep late. Sometimes there's a bright side to being stuck (said the relentless optimist).

Someone was asking if I often fuel 3 times in 1 day. Ogallala was my second fuel stop today, Rawlins the third. First was during pretrip at York NE. I'm at 79,100 with 11520, 33,700 and 33880 so I can only get 60 gallons at a time.

After I got fuel at Rawlins, though I was tired, clock showed a little over an hour left so kept going west to the next furthest truckstops I could make which was 40 miles, the J would have been 90 miles- no go. Anyway I was peacefully backing into my spot when I heard a loud crunch- oh lord what did I hit? It was the guy next to the guy next to me, he caught his trailer on a hood. Big Russian dude, he was asking me to spot him as he backed out. I told him to stop, only gonna make it worse. Then he asked me to drop my trailer and play wrecker and pull his trailer laterally off the other guy's hood. Sorry buddy my dog needs to go pee. Sheriff shows up, lots of drama hazmat corrosives on board.

I'd bet it is a drop. (Nobody live unloads at 0200)
    And a Plus-1.

Most likely you could have turned down the load, given a delivery time of 0800, and it still would have been a go.

The only way to fight against Plus-1 times, is to fight against them.
That means, never be too quick to accept the times given - especially if it makes you run too hard, or deliver at ungodly hours.

One advantage for me, I like to run early mornings... So a 0200 delivery kinda fits into my schedule. I'm not a big fan of not having a parking spot past 5pm local... Always makes me sweat a little when I'm out past my bed time.

Good Idea, I used to teach GED -- and the greatest thing was that I could take my time between making my classes -- somewhat --

Teaching is a TWO WAY street and if you got a couple of not so rewarding situations in a row you may want to wait until you miss it before you begin to HATE IT. But if it is IN YOU to teach you will miss it...
