I started my driving career at Swift. I thought I had picked the right company but quickly realized I had been wrong. My instructor was a idiotic donut eating pig, not volunteering any information, I had to ask what it was doing and he finally told me to read the manuel. I reported the lack of training 7 times. Nothing got done, no one even talked to him. I still managed to finish my training and got assigned a truck.I was getting 24cents / mile at first, after 2 months I was getting 26 cents (wow). I had to work 4 years to get 40cents.
My dispatcher was a #####, drivers do NOT get any respect from nearly anyone. I quit after 2 months as OTR. In 4 months total, I haven't met any happy driver at swift, no one!
I joined Schneider. Great people, great company. You still get screwed there, but with a smile. I have not met any unhappy driver there yet (except for me, but I have high expectations)
Swift... Don't go there!!

Seems to me you have to be willing to become a trainer at any mega carrier company,if you want a decent check.job hopping wont usually help with the screwing part lol..

And just why where you asking the donut eater pig questions while they where trying to enjoy their donut? No wonder they did not want to teach you anything. Back when I started driving that kind of impertinence could of got you thrown out at a offramp holding your bedroll.
The guy that showed me the ropes (handed me the keys and said drive, I am going to sleep) chewed 2 cans of tobacco and drank a half rack of warm Tab soda every day, and had just got back in a truck after his second heart attack at 40. And was a x log truck driver who had a little black and white TV he stuck in the hole where the CB goes at night and would drive 70 with one hand while he moved the antenna around to keep a station in focus.
Heck I wish I could of gotten someone who ate donuts, I sure would of slept better during my so called training running as a team. -

Now the above statement is completely untrue.Vista Cruiser Thanks this. -
when i was at swift i met alot of happy drivers but also met alot of people that didn't realize what they were getting into and were just mad as could be at everything

Honestly, I have no problem with Swift. I have never worked there and never would at this point in my career, but they offer drivers with ZERO experience a chance to drive. Sure, you don't make the money that most carriers will pay, but you have no experience and they will hire you right out of school. It is a stepping stone in the trucking industry. I have met many drivers that started out there, and the ones that understood what they meant to their careers were fine with what they got.
It isn't all about money. Being able to find a company that will let you get that 6 mo - 1 year experience under your belt is more valuable than most new drivers seem to understand. It's like any industry, you start at the bottom and work your way up.skoshi130, Vista Cruiser, Crawl and 2 others Thank this. -
I'm trying to work out how you quit after 2 months Otr yet had to work 4 years to get to .40cents, seem to be some holes their, or rather just some elaboration needed for a serious believing of said post
