I love long haul. Love being out a month at a time or longer.
Had to buy it outright because it was a private sale. Owner retired and just wanted to sell it.
Need advice..

Well if you can get that loan shark payment clear, just go shopping for a home and you have plenty of places to do good with.
-
Any advice on a good O/O company that hires out of Maine? Flatbed.
-
Mabe you can find a different company to lease on with!
-
I am not affiliated with them but looking at Landstar, they have N.E. freight as of the other day that needs covered. Most O/O shy away from them and may want to look into it since that lane is difficult to cover from most drivers.
I could not speak for anyone but you have a home where fright goes, just have to find the key hole. -
After they get done widdling away at it its not 85 percent anymore---good luck

Have a sit down talk with the bossman, re-negotiate your terms. If they really "like" you as you stated, they should understand your position. I think trailer rental AND mileage charge is a little much. As well as a grand a week payback.

85% sounds great at first....but the devil is ALWAYS in the details. By the time you subtract the "office fee" and anything else, you aren't anywhere close to that 85% figure. Not to mention, since you don't get a fuel surcharge, that tells me they are rolling that up into your gross and keeping 15% of that, too.
...and then you get to the trailer rental. $175/week comes to $9100/year. A detailed search on truckpaper, specifying only a 48' flatbed trailer on air ride for less than $9100 turned up 4 pages of results. The problem is, they tack on that extra $0.03/mile in addition to the trailer rental charge. If you run 10,000 miles per month, that's an additional $3600 for the year right there. For the $12,700 you're spending per year "renting" this trailer, there are 7 pages of 48' flatbed trailers on air ride to choose from.
...unless I assumed wrong and it is $175/MONTH plus the $0.03/mile...in which case $475/month for a 10,000 mile month isn't really TOO unreasonable.
Yup. Absolutely renegotiate the deal or find another company to sign on with. Make sure you read the fine print so that you know what you're getting into BEFORE you are up to your nose in charge-backs. Talk to O/O's who are already driving for the company and see how they like it, too...
Hopefully the $1000/week won't last too long...plates & permits shouldn't take more than 2-3 weeks at that rate to pay back, and the equipment shouldn't be more than another couple weeks worth of withholdings beyond that. $1000/week is rather excessive...so I'd be looking to see if they'd cut that in half. $500/week over 10 weeks can be a lot easier to handle than $1000/week for 5 weeks. -
Rusty-Who was the guy leased to that you bought the truck from? Why not talk to him and get some info??Good Luck

You better check and see if there really IS a fsc. I don't know (in my little world, that is) of any company NOT charging an fsc. By federal law, that fsc is supposed to go 100% to the entity that bought the fuel. That means YOU.Giggles the Original Thanks this.
