I thought this was just trucking!
-
well it isnt just meat plants was 18 hours late to the beer plant last week and it still wasnt ready guess those computer forklifts were on break after this meat load i get more beer Maybe this is a dedicated run and I just wasn't told ny to waco dodge city back east beer to waco well that is ok plenty of miles
-
Heaven forbid if you're late for a load either pu or deliver due to your fault. But it's ok if the shp takes hrs and hrs to load you then you're late.
-
well 12 hours hanging around baldwinsville ny then sent to bud in newark nj 12 hours here load was suppose to be out an hour ago i am starting to see a pattern here
-
I think so.Reefer drivers I think do alot more sitting then van.`
-
They do more condensed sitting, but when they run they run. Most of my runs were 900-1200 miles. Deliver, sit, pu one day, run hard for two days seemed to be the norm.
Many times you get dispatched to the shipper late where you can't get your 10 in. Then you ease to the nearest truck stop when loaded or get the magic pen out. Meat haulers definitely earn their paycheck.
I'm curious how EOBR's are playing a role on the meat haulers in intervention. Miles have to be dropping. -
I don't know if i'd like that having to make up for lost time.I work for a reefer company only im local. No way would I drive OTR with this company. Also my company does have elogs for the OTR and they are forced to do a split sleeper when needed and if you're not sure how to do it,company will help you.
-
Not even. You need to have a better understanding of the HOS to make elogs work for you on the driving side. If the load planners have it all in one sock, the additional info on your status makes it easier for them to schedule you more efficiently.
This is one where Your Mileage WILL Vary, but at my carrier I do much less waiting, especially at packing plants, post elogs. IMO, I'm making more money since the change. Elogs forces me to do a better job of planning, plus the ability to log to the minute gives me some more available line 3 time over paper logs. They will wait on covering the loads if we have enough availability in a given area until the shipper gets the load ready, or it needs to be covered because DDT is approaching.
Condo is right about one thing though... if we are delayed, its time to get some sleep. When we get turned loose, you'll need it so you can take advantage of the HOS to run. -
When places like Tyson set the delivery appointment times and put it on the bills, you have no choice but to reschedule if things aren't going as planned.... late arrival, late loading or out of hours.
I don't see how you control the wait time when the shipper is in control. Better job of you planning? You pick up, drive and deliver by their times. It puts more on a load planner and dispatcher to make things work. If they ain't doing their job it doesn't matter what you do.
Knowing how many paper log meat haulin' companies operate I'm just saying it's a huge adjustment to them.Panhandle flash and TLeaHeart Thank this.
