I know what you mean buckeye.. Woke up about 5 years ago and realized, we would have nothing by way of savings or an income stream for retirement. The way I see it is: in order to really retire a person needs to have an income stream to cover monthly bill's. If you haven't invested than you are counting on SS or some type of retirement fund. I would have to stay in the TN Army National Guard for 12 more years to have a $1500 a month income stream by the time I turn 64.. I am NOT depending on the Gov for anything. I plan on investing about 15% starting next March, for 20yrs. During that time, start own business and build to 3-5 trucks. I have a plan to have everything we will need by that time and paid for. So, cell phone, electric, water, cable TV, vehicle Ins, medical Ins and fuel will be the monthly cost,,minimum.

well thats a good plan and you thought of it 10 yrs before me --lol -- i dont want to be in a soup line when im 75 lol -- we cant count on social security they will have to do something and i feel that something is going to effect me big time in some way -- our goal is to have 400,000 saved up in ten years --which envolves making money with the money -- but thats entirely feasable for us to do --- and even if we end up with half that we would be a lot more secure socially then just counting on social security -- the biggest problem we have will be keeping it away from the government ---going to see a good tax man --- if general motors dont have to pay taxes then why should i fork over mine lol

Why do so many people buy into this? You do not have to stay out a month to earn a living. You can go home every weekend and still earn a good living during the week.SheepDog Thanks this.

thats not the idea here --- this is not for everybody -- mostly older folks or the younger -- we are not trying to raise a family and trying to have a so called normal life , we have done that allready -- we dont need to be home every weekend -- we would rather bank the cash than pay for a place we hardly see --- now as for the younger folks-- they can do this for maybe 4 or 5 yrs and pay cash for a house -- get a more normal lifestyle raise a family be around 30 with no mortgage hanging over their head for the next 30 yrs--- just think about it -- not everyone can do it but for those who can there are some pretty good financial benifits

You are correct. I guess I meant the newbies who go with a mega carrier and still expect to be home every two weeks while making good money.
My brother is home every weekend and makes great money so it can be done with some time under your belt (or local).SheepDog Thanks this. -
yea i have 2 brothers that work for averit and there home every night they have little kids make decent money and that fits them, i really dont want to do that , my first job out of the gate was driving from fremont ohio to lansing il 5 days a week 528 miles a day home every night just yard to yard drop and hook for some thats an ideal job -- i couldnt stand it i ran regional for awhile and i loved it useually home 4 nights a week -- at this point in my life running team with my wife is great 6 yrs ago it wouldnt have worked at all -- we have family scattered all across the country and just wouldnt see them at all -- sometimes it might be were passing through meet me at the truckstop and i will buy you dinner lol --- some of these new kids starting now have no idea of the lifestyle change they got themselves into and a lot of them just wont last too long -- we look at it as getting paid to go on vacation --sometimes--lol-- well its still a job --she isnt ready to sell the house yet --- but she is starting to come around

Personally, I hate the idea of being weighed down by a mortgage, house utilities, etc. I NEVER want to have kids so I don't have to worry about that. I hate being confined in one place for a long period of time so I see the road as my home. I would like to think this lifestyle and outlook will save me a LOT of money while getting to do some things I like to do.

That's exactly the point. One has to try and do what works for him/her.SheepDog Thanks this.
