Sure do, but I'm going from .31 - .36 to .37-.42 More miles and way better trucks. I'm still a rookie... who knows. Maybe this is where I will find happiness for a while or I will do it for a year and see what I think. Keeping my mind and options open.

Skaggs, I have been following your posts since the beginning. It has been an enlightening roller coaster ride and though extremely frustrating for you, very enjoyable from the educational perspective for us. Since I follow several posts on this forum, may I make a suggestion? Since you are moving to PA look up Calex written here by under good companies to work for. Now that you have a year of experience under your belt it might be a good fit. I do not speak from experience there, just that were I not already happy enough working as a team with my husband for Schneider, Calex is a company I would check out! Btw, we will be with Schneider 5 years come Sept. and we are very content to remain. Are they perfect? No, no company is. But they do right by us.
Regardless where you go, I beg of you to continue your observations. You are an intelligent, observant individual and have great writing skills that benefit many on these boards. Keep those wheels rolling and those fingers typing! Good luck in your next adventure! -
Thanks.
I feel like this switch will be a step up for me... and that's all that really counts at this point. I weighed in my options. I also have friends over at Marten who have been happy for a long time.
I will have the following.
A KW, Peterbilt or Freightshaker Cascadia. I would be equally happy with any of the three brands.
APU!!!!!! YEAH APUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!
Marten has safety rules that are far more strict. This is something I GREATLY appreciate. You get a full inspection anytime you enter a Marten yard. Also... truck wash!
Anyway. I may start a new thread, I may not. I started this one, because it was my very first experience.
I'm not positive if OTR is going to be a permanent thing for me. We are discussing wether or not I will do regional once I move to PA. I might stick to regional so I can see my family more. -
You might as well stay at Knight then go to Marten. They are the worse. They put their freight on trains, and you go to the rail yard to deliver a 120 mile load that doesn't deliver till the next day. Or you will pick up a long load and take it to the train. They will have you in their little regions doing 120 and 200 mile trips that eat up your time, and don't go in the yard for a service that will be 3 or 4 days and most of the shops are not 24hrs. If you can get on with Cal Ex o a smaller company it might be better.

Forgot to mention the safety lanes in which are all good until you have 5 trucks in front of you and your 14 hr clock is ticking away. Or the lock they want you to put on your steering wheel shaft under the hood each and every time you get of the truck. If you are like me you just have to watch out for tattle tail drivers who are waiting to call in on you if you don't do it. There will be a nice message on your qualcom when you get back. Communication u might do better with smoke signals. You probably end up flying or renting a car to pick up some abandoned truck out of a salvage yard like I did. Also they don't like you taking toll roads even though they have pre pass. They want you to take the back roads in Chicago, but hopefully all that has changed in the 2 years since I have been there. Which lasted a whole 4weeks in which I paid for my own bus ticket home from Indianapolis, In.
Hopefully it will work for you, but it will be good reading if you do start a thread.
P.S Also you need to have a SECURE PLACE to park your truck on home time. A truck stop is not good enough.Last edited: Jun 23, 2012

Smaggs you made a lateral move... at best. All these garbage haulers are the same. Stupid rules, payroll errors and then they make it seem like their doing you the favor.
One more move and your finished. I cannot stress how multiple jobs will keep you hauling junk for these driver recycling mills. Make sure your next move is the last. I can't blame you for leaving Knight though. Any fool that works for free is not only hurting themselves they are hurting everyone. Anyone at Knight that says they don't do free crap is a lier. I saw it firsthand and it's all here on TR. Too many people have the same complaints about Knight.
Ive said it before and I'll say it again...Knight trains because expierianced drivers don't work for free.truckerdave1970 Thanks this. -
I currently have a house in Phoenix and I will have another in Pittsburgh. I can actually park my bobtail on site at home.
I'll start a different thread for Marten then...

These stupid inspection lanes are the result of brain dead truck drivers that refused to pre-trip their trucks. Pretty much the kind of drivers that bottom feeders attract and actively "recruit." They also waste your valuable time. A busy terminal and you'll be sitting there for an hour.
