Good night from...

Brush, CO. All of 1.25 hours short of getting this dropped tonight so that I could have had this 830 miles on this weeks settlement, plus help with the fuel since I topped off yesterday in MO. That is what I get for helping out on a repower. Well, at least a good start on the new week, but going to get burned come the weekend, pu all of 9 hours over 2 days. Good old plus 1. Prior to those 2 days, pu 9's and 10's, and after pu 9 and 10's again. Tried MAC 30 tonight, 488 miles for live unld on Friday in SLC and a paper load from Evergreen to Snowflake. Not touching either one.

 

Dayton, OH, behind SamS for a 0400 edt live unload... Goonna be heading to Greer tomorrow for a BService. Not looking forward to being in he south with all this heat... Oh well there goes my 4.3 %idle rate...

 

Madera, CA at Pilot, CA99, exit 159 waiting til 10pm to finish 8 of an 8/2 split. Picking up Capri Sun in Fresno headed for Casa Grande, AZ by 4:45am Friday. Gonna load and run down to Bakersfield tonight and see if I can get lucky before I head out tomorrow. Not looking forward to more 110* desert heat. Told my DM to expect 50% idle this month. He said he would be pleasantly surprised if it was less. We shall see.

Had fun getting to the ranch this morning then watching the cowboys unload 1150 bales of wood shavings, one at a time, for the horses to sleep, poop and pee on. (Stuff makes the best garden mulch after its horsed.) Scottie, was your bridge on CA25 over the San Benito river? If it was all bridge builders should drink a lot of beer at work. Smooth.

Grand Island, NE. Glad that I waited until this morning do to a MAC 30. Grapped a nice 1040 mile run, del Sat, 7700lbs. As of right now, 10mpg, and that is with getting a head wind when hitting N. Platte, NE. Prior to that, tailwind. Going to be interesting to see what Sat brings since I will have about 7 avail when mt and pick up close to 5 midnight Saturday. My DM was hinting that WI would be a nice place to take the weekend off. Told him nope, as long as hours to run, then I run. Can easily get a load for 500 miles for Monday morning. My Policy, as long as have hours, then run.

Im in Greer SC, Got a trailer reposition of 470 miles, but didn't get enough sleep last night, had to stop and take a two hr nap. Found out my AC works better than I thought it did... Stopped at a rest area, stepped out and felt like someone punched me in the gut with over 40 degrees differents outside in.

 

Got new steers put on tonight. Wanted to take advantage of that 'buy 2 steers, get 2 Centramatics free' deal they had going thru the end of the month. The T/A I was at in Saginaw last night said they do not honor those coupons. So I got to the next T/A after doing up all my laundry in New Boston, and they hemmed and hawed about the coupon for a while saying if I'm using Swift's national discount the coupon won't work, only with retail (out of pocket). But the manager finally compromised, said if I go with the Firestones instead of Bridgestones Swift recommends, and pay the retail side of the transaction (mount, dismount, balance, discard old tires etc) he would throw in the Centramatics for the steer axle free-- $199 value.

The ride already felt smoother just bobtailing back over to the trailer, can't wait to get on the big road in a few hours here....

Fred is an hour and a half down the road in Montgomery, Alabama at what he described as "the worst truck stop that he has seen so far in all of the country". The local drug salesman came up to his door and tried to take his order like he was working the drive thru at McDonalds, the parking lot is crawling with hookers, there's a panhandler going around asking everybody for gas money but there's no car in sight, and the cops just banged on his door to tell him that there's no overnight parking and that he can do the DOT crawl to another truck stop that's down the road.

Camped out at my favorite terminal away from home, Fontana. Don't know why I like the place, but I do.

Dropped my load at the Target DC here in Fontana and had to bobtail to the terminal. That's what I get for passing on a crappy looking 5 series trailer, turned out to be the only Swift MT at the DC and the Swifty right behind me grabbed it.

No load at the moment, will try a MAC 30 when I get back to the truck.
