Sure they are. Your carrier just has to have the balls to charge them enough detention to make it too painful for them to slack on the loads.

Nothing like a little Fabreeze (your scent preference of course) to drown out the odor of packing plants, skunk, etc...

Meat plants are what you make of them. I have hauled for Cargill (I drive for an O/O that is leased to Cargill) for 10 years. Yes, sometime you have to wait, but, as others have said, be prepared! Most importantly get your rest and be ready to go when the load is ready. When I first started pulling a reefer, it annoyed me to no end to wait for the plant. Now, I get my well deserved rest and if I have any other time, shop, laundry etc...

One thing though.....I NEVER stay at the plants. I have my places I go to stay that are far more comfortable.

National Beef in Brawley, Ca (formely Brawley Beef) is known for going wayyy past ddt. Ask shipping when your load will be ready, he'll tell you two hours. If he says that, you'll be there in the morning. :biggrin_25518: Then again thats the joy of hauling beef.

I don't miss hauling IBP AKA Tyson one bit. I remember waiting 36 hrs at Dakota City, back before 34 hrs of that 36 would have meant something.
