If you are happy at Knight, then stay there, and stay happy. I myself would not be happy with $700 a week, but that's because I have been driving for 25 years, and am worth more. I don't get tickets, beat up equipment, or act stupid around shippers and receivers. (Yeah, I save all my stupidity for the Truck Stop Parking Lot).
One thing I can't understand, is how Knight makes their drivers drive around looking for empty trailers, after they deliver. Their operations is so out of whack, that they can't even tell their drivers where there are trailers to use? I would never work for a company that did that. I talked to a woman driving for them, and she was complaining about spending all day, looking through the lots of 3 different customers, looking for an empty. When I asked how much she got paid for all the driving around, and time spent searching for trailers, she told me nothing....not a dime.
The first time a company did that to me, I would fuel up, and bobtail home.

$700 whole dollars a week? So your running 2000 miles a week and off (at home) 4 days a month? What do you do with all spare time? Drive around looking for empties? Sounds like CR England did a number on you and your expectations.

She should have been paid for the miles driven. Every DM I ever worked with at knight would also kick down with some local pay if it took a lot of time without a lot of miles.

A girl I know who no longer works for Knight explained to me why they go around looking for trailers. Many of Knights drop customers also ship so you do not get a MTY after dropping the loaded trl. The drivers you usually see hunting for mtys are drivers who drop in yards but don't want to do a local to get a mty- The others may have to go to more then 1 location to get a mty because some of the customers that are supposed to mty them within 72 hrs don't so the driver shows up and trl is still loaded. And some drivers do not do their job and send in Macro's when pu a trl and it still shows in the old location. And then you have numptie Dispatchers who don't care and just send you wherever they think a mty might be because you have shown yourself to be weak and put up with bull in the past.
But she said she always got paid for the times she hunted for mty's which she said was rare if you just pu a loaded one and del it- I time she said she went from Tracy ca through the bay area to Woodland ca and back to Sacramento to get a mty trl on a Saturday for a load that pu Sunday. She was paid the mileage rate for it on her next load as DH.
The terminals at knight all have their own budget so some try to stiff and some don't- but many drivers let themselves get stiffed because they don't have a rep of not putting up with any bull-
I have said it before, you let a OTR company roll you, they will. You stand up for yourself while getting the job done they will remember that FedEx or some other hot load you shut down till you got paid and not try it again.rogercausey Thanks this. -
Yep, u use ur tch cards for scales...when u go inside 2 pay, just givem ur milage, trip #,drivercode etc etc

yea DNA I have gone around looking for mts...3x in the last month. and you know what I have gotten paid every single mile I drove. and evidently you didnt read up....$700 a week while am on probation then goes up from there. also since you dont read let me explain it again...this is pocket money to me. I have a wife that makes over $3000 grand a monthafter taxes and we dont have a house payment...car payment and pay bout $150 a month in utilities.. as for other things this helps buy what we need and save alot every month.. I do this cuz I love driving and so far the money is ok. it will get better.
-
hey drvrtech I have gotten reimbursed for every scale ticket up till last month when they ok'd out TCH card for paying scale so not sure what planet you were driving but Knight paid me back. As for tolls I do mainly west so the occasional bridge tolls in the bay area of Cali I got paid back thru that also.
-
I will confirm that drvrtech is right. Getting reimbursed at Knight used to be a constant problem.
After what I had to deal with today they have traded cheating for lying as the preferred sin. If you want to read why I say this go here:

I have worked at knight for a few years now .
Aside from the total incompetence of ops.
A lot of the problems I read on this forum , are from drivers themselves either not speaking up or not understanding the industry at large..
As in life when you allow someone or something to eat at you perhaps walk all over you that will continue to be the course ,, until you take responsibility ..
Speak up demand to get paid for every single thing sitting searching for mty's etc .
If they refuse to pay or forget repeatedly take it to another level.
There are venues for resolving issues They reside in the state of your home terminal.
As for pay this is one of the lowest paying carriers in the industry they believe since they lose drivers to hearrtland and gain a few from them every week they will just let it be. There pay scale is absolutely criminal in nature , Driver managers have been told by greed driven people to not pay a driver any extra pay unless you ask for it . That is criminal as well.
Bonus plans are a farce..
They have outgrown most of the terminals. yet the space remains the same . Where's our apu's?
They will not act in your favor and will continue treating you as less then pets as long as most of you fail to speak up.
Its not enough to get angry think it through , plan ahead act professionally to get treated like one. Be one step ahead of them , stand up for yourself, get together.

Why fight a bunch of incompetent idiots for such stupid things as empty searches? MT searches shouldnt even happen in the first place. I couldnt even imagine how much fuel they waste. All you do is a find a company that doesn't build cheating the drivers into their corporate philosophy. Knights terminal managers job is to make the company money. I think we all know how Knight makes money ONTOP of billing companies. Knight used to require two years expieriance. The reason they started Squire is simply because you cannot cheat expieriancecd drivers.
APU's? Knights idea of driver retention is not letting most of them go home because they know they will be quitting when they get back to the terminal. So you'll never see an APU on a Knight truck ever. No matter how good you do at Knight, you can always do better somewhere else.
