Stupidest thing I have done??? Well, although I have been driving for over 4 yrs, I still consider myself a rookie and still do stupid things... But of course I will not post the stupidest ones in a public forum... Only the unimportant ones such as miss the entrance gate to a customer for the second time even though they have a big sign right in front... or enter the fuel bay at a truck station the wrong way.... well... all fuel bays were empty so I couldn't determine which way was in and I don't remember seeing any entrance sign anywhere...
stupidest thing u have done or seen a rookie do?

1 month into my career,I was dropping an mt at Fresh Express in Dallas.Cranked down the landing gear, disconnected the lines, and pulled out.The trailer disappeared from my mirror, then reappeared, then disappeared again. When it appeared again,I backed under it quickly, got out,and found one side of the landing gear still in the up position.Fixed it with a bolt I had in my toolbox, and have checked both sides of the landing gear on every trailer I have dropped since that day.

Yesterday morning on I80 in NV,I passed a truck with the curtain pulled over the driver's window all the way to the windshield post to keep the sun off the driver, which meant he couldn't see me until I was almost done passing him.I may have made a phone call shortly thereafter.

I'll never forget the time it took me an hour to back into a godforsaken dock door hole with a spotter at that! Derrrrrrrr. Picture this. Dock door on a steep incline, in the corner. One side of the hole a brick wall, on the other a dropped trailer. Literally only maybe 40 ft ahead of hole in the lot, and then right ahead of that was an exit going into a very busy residential street. I still have nightmares over this. After I FINALLY got her in there, 3 drivers that had been waiting on me to move so they could get out, were applauding. lol, I've never felt so dumb.

Also, I seem to be in a small minority of reefer drivers with roll up doors, but I don't get swing doors, if you wanted to stack product to the ceiling then you would stop the flow of air from the chute, so why use swing open doors? -
I missed a turn in San Francisco, and ended up pulling a 53 foot trailer up and down streets in SF where no 53 trailer had ever gone before. Scared the hell out of me, while my trainer slept soundly in the sleeper. I had no idea if I would ever escape SF without a tow. My blood pressure went through the roof, and in the end it was one of the main reason I decided to quit trucking before I even trained out. Man, you guys can have this job! -quitter
