I usually limit myself to 3 mph over at highway speeds. I rarely speed in city limits... And absolutely never in a school or construction zone. On a side note, I was coming home from shopping just now in my four-wheeler, and at 87 mph I was unable to keep up with the flow of traffic. Speed limit was 75. Starting to wonder it my speedometer is off.

If you ever have the pleasure of running US 54 between Wichita and Tucumcari, make sure you do the little town speed limits to the dot. They meet their budget needs hanging tickets on that road.

California I-15 going to Las Vegas on a Friday night is insane. Anyone remember when CHP got so fed up that they ran a cruiser with a sign on top "do not pass" from LA to Vegas? There's just no way they can slow the vehicles down. But be in a truck and go that speed you're at risk. Most times they will not bother but other times they sit and wait. In NV I drove anyway I wanted out on the open road but when I came into the city you better believe I was going the speed limit.

There's no rule on how much you can go over the speed limit before they will give you a ticket. I've gone 5 MPH over and never been bothered. Just know you can get a ticket for any amount over the posted speed and the defense of staying up with the flow of traffic will not work.

I get a kick out of the trucks on Homestake and Lookout passes as well as Monteagle.

Down hill side says "trucks Speed limit 25mph", these idiots are running 45+ down them.

Uh, it's set there for a reason. You ain't gaining enough time for trying to beat it in 4 miles to justify smokey sitting there waiting for you.

Yeah, I can relate with Homestake. I usually don't go faster than 30 mph on the eastbound lane. But there is always some other driver that blows my doors off. My friend actually got an $800 fine hammering down that pass.

    "How fast is too fast?"

When you see the "Warp Effect" you are going too fast. Or someone spiked your spring water...
