i doubt if he couldnt make it here, he would make it at either of those. seems like we have a flood of crst refugees coming to mercer lately though. i used to be with malone but that was well before crst got em. honestly g-man , it hard to compare these 3 companies. mercer is a throwback to the old days, the last holdout i guess.

 

They are very different companies. I don't have personal experience with Mercer, but from talking to a friend and others who have leased to them, they seem like a good company. You are correct about Mercer being a throwback to the old days. CRST Malone was more like the old days before CRST bought out Malone. It is still a good company, but things are different. Landstar is also different, but I would not consider them something from the old days. They have been a trailblazer in the industry utilizing technology like no other. Each has their benefits and drawbacks.

 

When you guys say "Mercer is a throwback to the old days" exactly what do you mean?

it means they treat you like a human being, they treat you like a man or woman. not some dummy that sits in a seat.

you make decisions for yourself and as long as you do your job , no one gives you grief.

but maybe you got to be an old guy to understand.

its little things like buying your lunch when ya come to louisville, being able to go to anyones office and see them and i mean anyone, you got your own payroll person, one person does your logs etc.

you got the same coordinator all the time. heck the whole outfit in louisville goes to lunch at 12:30 and comes back at 1:30, sometimes thats a pain, but any other time you never they are at lunch, so all in all it works out.

You don't have to be an old guy to understand, cause I ain't old yet. This is the biggest outfit that I have ever leased onto or worked for, and by far is the best.

 

They pay quickly on loads and don't charge a discount for paying early. They will pay within an hour of receiving paperwork if you broker a load through them. They are the only major broker/carrier that I know of who will pay that quickly and not discount the rate. They still operate like a small company in many ways. Many of the major carriers are owned by bean counters. You don't see some of the games that some play. Mercer is a different animal and is still family owned, as far as I know.
