I have a end goal of oversize hauling. Stepz tend to be a bit more geared to machinery etc which to me at least seams like a more logical step twords where I want to be then a flat does. I may be misguided but we make our choices and we live with them.
Generally higber rates but less loads. Altho.like said rates seem a bit depressed but.its a stepping stone to me not an end goal

I'm at $2.47 a mile so far this week
On 172 miles I'm in Decatur,AL and can't find any stepdeck loads or any loads under 46,000lbs that pays over $2.20 a mile everything today has been $1.68 or less -
You can only scale 46,000 with that Freightliner?
-
Yap that's it full of fuel!!!! With half a tank I can do 46,500 and yes that's the truck and trailer in my pic if I take off all my ramps 4x4s tarps and #### I could do 47,000 With but you have to have all that
-
Wow, where is all the weight at? I have a W900, 272" wb, cat motor, 18 speed, enclosed headache rack, ramps, tarps, etc and I can scale 47,000 full of fuel. And I pull a combo step. Not that I ever want to haul 47,000 anyway, but in a jamb it could be helpfull.

I bounced up to KY last week for that very reason....I know its good paying loads in AL, but I couldn't find them and got tired of hearing "I move it all the time for this" ... I got a great rate going in so I didnt mind
-
We're pretty close on securement then, my trailer is 9400# by itself.
-
If my trailer was that I could scale 50,k

i agree with oscar. i pull my own stepdeck for mercer. wide load, from what have seen over here, you would be better off with a flatbed. flat gives you more options for sure. with winter coming on, i have a feeling its gonna be a slow down i had considerd hooking up my flatbed and leasing it on and parking my stepdck in the barn for the rest of the year unless i see a load i just cant pass. i enjoy my step better though. might just park both and go pull propane. just goin day by day right now. good luck though.
