Hey guys. I start at C1 in Indianapolis on Monday the 24th and will be driving for USA Truck after I graduate. Ill try to keep everybody updated as much as possible. Im nervous but thats expected coming from always working retail to stepping behind the wheel of an 80,000 pound vehicle. Any suggestions from some experienced guys? Any input is appreciated.

Don't be in a hurry. Be methodical. Leadfoots don't last long. You'll do fine.

Luckily I dont have a leadfoot. Im 21 and have a perfect driving record. My biggest challenge will be getting use to double clutching and having to judge the length of the trailer. Other than that I think ill be fine.

Six years ago, I started there. You'll hear "you see 1, you see 'em all."
Passed the Indiana state exam on my first try. I remember getting my first truck, a lady was quitting and wanted to get rid of her cb, tv, ect...
Man, that lady was a '10'. Shouldda took the cb, she was even giving it away. Not sure if she was married... -
Second day in and its been fairly good. Had some issues with my physical but got that all worked out. Only thing im having issues with is that #### Indiana state test that I am forced to take lol. Alot of their laws are different than home and even though I study I keep thinking of my home states rules haha. Tomorrow is test day for state and our CDL permit so I am gonna hit the books in a little bit then try and get in bed early.

Hey TNMinitrucker, am seriously considering USA. I am just unsure of the whole Driver Solutions thing. Keep me updated on the progress and C1 in Indy.. I am from Corbin Ky area and will more than likely be attending there. What should I expect, Bring etc etc. Best of luck to ya man

Biggest thing is make sure your license is clear. Other than that I brought up a couple weeks worth of clothes even though they have washers and dryers its only one per level lol. And enough money t eat on and money for licensing fees. So far its going great.

My best advice is to do several things before you leave home. First go get a blood sugar and blood pressure reading! Their cheap and will tell you if you are borderline diabetic or have high blood pressure. I lost count of the Pam drivers that were sent home because of high urine protein. If your blood sugar is high make sure you fast the day before you take that physical. If your blood pressure is high go see a doctor. Next go pay a few bucks and get a 7 year driving history and make sure it is clean this is another thing that will get you sent home. The background checks driver solutions does is NOT that extensive and the carriers sometimes find out things. Lastly be 100% honest with all the things you tell the driver solutions recruiter, if you are not honest they will only find it out later and send you home most likely for good. As far as money goes I suggest you take at least $100 to $150 a week for food and other things. I don't know how far the hotel is now from the C1 campus but if it's still where it was in Oct 2010 you had better have a car or find a way to get from the hotel to the school every morning and afternoon. Most of the time this is easy, just hang out where the students take smoke breaks and they will help you. I also suggest you take at least 6 days of clothes with you. There is a washer and dryer at the hotel, but you can also get clothes washed at several other places near the hotel. As it's getting near winter I suggest you take warm clothes. One more thing and I mean this! Don't get all upset about that pretrip, all you will hear is oh you better start getting on that pretrip! NO! Get started on getting those Indiana permits, you CAN NOT do any range training till you get your Indiana class A learners! You will have plenty of time to work on that pretrip later. Over 10 guys in my week one C1 class failed those tests because they were spending all their time on that dang pretrip and several had to redo week one because of it. Also make sure you take 2 proofs of residency with you because you will need both to get your Indiana permits. I'm not posting a link but the Indiana drivers license bureau has all the information you will need.
TNMinitrucker Thanks this. -
Exactly what he said. We lost people due to blood pressure and sugar and failing a drug test. I failed my combination vehicles test for my CDL A Learners but that was it and been cramming over the pre trip. The hotels about 6 miles from the campus so ya youll need a way back and forth. And maybe its just me but alot of the trucks you train on seem to be junk. They preach about no more than 2 degrees of play in a 20 inch wheel and one of the trucks is crazy. Other than that its going good
