I've seen a lot of drivers get ripped off at grocery warehouses, Fleming Foods was as bad as they get. Thankfully, they are now out of business. One time saw a guy with a load of ice cream, had the load rejected, saying the ice cream was soft. He didn't argue, took the paperwork and left. The Fleming freezer workers laughed at him after he left; what happened, they accidentally double ordered, then rejected the load to cover their own arse's. The guy that "discovered" the soft ice cream was awarded a gold coin for saving the company money. The trucking company or 0/0 probably had to pay for the load, not the broker or shipper. Must have been a new driver not to protest or call anyone before leaving the dock & the property.

reciever took my product under protection without usda inspection. temp recorder showed high, they wrote on bol poor quality. if they open the claim, i don't know ins can cover without usda inspection. i don't have reefer download

I got paid for that load no claim it was very hot outside and i think the refer blow had to blow around 28 deg in order to keep that temp in the trailer or when they load it it was frozen one way or the other, bat with the refer download the broker change his attitude right a way.refer business is like that .

I ran a load of snow peas to jersey, I backed in and went to sleep, about an hour later the broker called and said there was a problem that the peas were frozen. I said impossible because the load was set at 42. so i go inside and demand to see the recorder, the lady says see, it dropped to 30..
I was stunned and then as im looking over the recorder i see that it says it went to 30 degrees, 45 hours after the recorder was activited. So i called the lady back in and told her, I picked up this load
36 hours ago, how is it theres a mark on the recording paper 10 hrs from now. She stayed quiet and accepted he load.kbarttt Thanks this. -
I would expect something called snow peas to be frozen.

"Set the reefer at 34"? How does the shipper know if you have a produce setting or if you have a 20 year old reefer? I'll bet it didnt say "set the reefer at 34 degrees". It probably said "shipping temp". Its your responsibility to know where to set your temp based on what tendencies your trailer has. Do you have holes in your chute, an old non-computer reefer unit, were the return rails under the pallets plugged with the last load you had on, etc... In a perfect scenario you could just set it at 34 and drive with your arm out the window and forget about it.

Also all lettuce products should be covered with plastic atleast half way down. Protecting any product from top freeze is usually available from shipper, paper rap, plastic and its free but you need to rap or cover it yourself unless the receiver has requested it. i rap any product that is shipped in ice also so not to get any freeze burn from the ice. Also fight any claim remember if your not sure about what your hauling or how to protect the product ask questions look on line and cover it on top always . Also knowing your refer is also important. 35 degrees works better for my lettuce loads, temps at chute ends are 30-33 so i cover the ends and slit the paper
VisionLogistics Thanks this.
