my question is in my experience anyway , no everyones but mine local really isnt really all worth it to me you take a huge pay cut and run so hard your barely home anyway just to sleep no time to do anything but a 10 hour break . so really in my eyes its not worth it might as well be otr right? with me it was either running so hard i couldnt see my family ever cause was like 7am to sometimes as late as 9 pm . at least otr can relax a little sometime in my experience anyway what do you all think ? who would rather be otr then local or the other way around let me know tell me why etc.

That was my experience with local as well. I did like when I did regional and I could get out of the city or Run up to Little Rock from Houston delivering Budweiser and then back home. But city driving all day. That is not for me.

I didn't care much for it. It took being home everyday to realize I didn't care to be home everyday. I actually worked a normal 8-10 hour day so I still had plenty of time to do other things though. However, back on the road, after 4 or 5 days I'm done. Found my current company 3 years ago and they said "well...we'll get you home every other weekend for 2 or 3 days." Once they realized that I give it 100% at all times I kind of made my own home time guidelines. One of the reasons i'll never work a for large company again. I can't stand their idiotic rules.

I had a gig where I didn't take a pay cut. I worked 14 hours a day 5 days a week 10am to midnight. Still, I couldn't get out on the road fast enough. My wife asked what the difference was since I still had the 14 hour clock either way. I told her that I never WORK 14 hours straight while OTR.

I am leaving a local LTL job, where I am home everyday, to go OTR...I am going to work for the Walmart Private Fleet!

14 hours a day, no breaks, just HURRY-HURRY-HURRY, all day long

Its worth it to me, to be away from home...

The LTL grind will takes its toll on you!!!

i run local linehaul, i work mon-fri 730am to 730pm and have weekends and holidays off, i have plenty of time at home....and the money in LTL can be anywhere from $50,000/yr to $120,000/yr......OTR cant really compete money/hometime wise. The hard part is finding a job where you can get on first shift, dont get treated like crap, and where top pay is in that range.

I'm local city p&d, i don't think i could go back to otr, i work 8-10 a day m-f, weekends and holidays off and bring home a Nice paycheck. Get to have a "normal" life. It's not for everyone, it's pretty physical, lots of traffic morons etc....but to each his own. Plus i get paid hourly...so it's not so much hurry up gotta keep'em rolling :)

Dead jester you just might be a exception then you just found a good gig . If I could work 8-10 hours a day and pull a good check in I would , I also hate day cabs they make for a real rough ride breat the heck out of your back at least does with me , but I also had a 379 when I was Otr to . Walmart well good luck braceface I heard good things about them , I heard you even get paid to sleep , providing that's all true but good luck .
