Here is a quote from eHow from an article called "Grants for Trucking School" By Elaine Severs, eHow Contributor
Read more: Grants for Trucking School | eHow.com http://www.ehow.com/list_6615581_grants-trucking-school.html#ixzz298mkuKTK
Federal grants are not generally available for individual job training, but if you are receiving unemployment benefits or are a veteran, you may be eligible for Workforce Investment Act grants distributed through your state or for GI bill job transitional assistance. If you are a veteran honorably discharged from the military, you might also be eligible for a scholarship through The Commercial Driver Training Foundation, Inc. Individual states might also offer some type of workforce training assistance. The training program you chose should have information about the funding options available in your state.
I am a Vet myself, and could have gotten help through my unemployment office. They had a grant at the time to help vets get job training. Hope you find something that will help you out. I'm an old vet, not a new vet and they still would have helped me. The only stipulation was "honorable discharge" not whether you had been in recently.

Plenty of help for military vets through the VA. Contact the VA.
Here's some other help also:
1. Look at bottom of this page and click on "Truck Driver Training Scholarships."
2. Contact the local unemployment office or state Dept. of Labor & apply for WIA(Workers Investment Act). This program will pay for driving school.
3. CLICK HERE for a list of trucking companies that hire new drivers. (these companies send you through their school, and you must sign a contract to work for them after schooling. Most will charge for the school and take payments out through payroll deduction) All companies on this list, can apply online. -
Are you a HAL-3 vet? I'm not, but I recognize the chopper. But, I am an old vet.

I understand the fuzzy memory; opiate laced alcohol way back then. Wild days back then. My close friend was stationed at Subic Bay, Philippines & sent to HAL-3 Ben Thuy Detachment on TAD orders. 5 months later shot down and lost toes on one foot, then they let him re-enlist. The Navy was really laid back in those days. I love the Orient & live here now. The "good times" are still el cheapo, not much different from then. Now, what is the subject? Best wishes.Last edited: Oct 13, 2012

I believe 30 % disabled vets are qualified for retraining. That's how my school was covered and included a small stipend.
