I'm sorry but i find this kinda funny.. Those New England states need to step out of the 18th Century and update their infrastructure. They're so stuck on keeping that old look and feel that they're boo boo'in on them selves.. Kinda like the whole Va thing a few months back when all of those people lost their power because winds knock'd trees onto power lines.. The same trees the power company was trying to trim back but the PEOPLE said they were being too aggressive and cause'd them to stop.. We as human beings are our own worse enemy in one way or another.

Which is exactly why spending the day up in the hills was the right move--110 miles sw--been gettin hammered all day--most if not all the roads close--lots of trees down--and still probably 8 hours of this till its out--So enjoy the day off---besides if the storm surge continues out east--not much chance the port's gonna be doing anything tommorrow either

yep, that's what dispatch said. I dropp'd my trailer and putt'd ova to the fuel isle to top off jus in case the power goes out.

they don't have to look like Cali, but atleast maintain their roads, and power grid, next time you're through there and sitting at a traffic light, look at a power/light pole and it's placement/condition. They really take the "if it's not broke don't fix it" something serious up there. a pot hole isn't an issue until a small toyota get's lost in it.

I'm not sure what the difference is, but Sandy has now been labeled a post tropical cyclone. There was a company wide message sent out this morning that no trucks were to go into the NE until this storm was over. The drivers were to find a safe place to park and ride out the storms.

Con Edison has just shut power off to parts of lower Manhattan as they don''t want salt water getting in to the power systems. This is just an unbelievable storm, and the worst has not even hit yet.

the biggest problem is the duration of the event
typical hurricane lasts 12 hours but this going on gfor days
then goes inland 5-10 inches of rain floods the streams and the people that didnt get it first go round
will get flooded second time from rivers over there banks

Hmmmm.... my dispatch owes me some coin... If it's down graded then the only threat to a Floridan is rain and wind.. Don't have to worry about seeing a mobile home flying through the air anymore.. Actually that threat went away when it downgraded from a Cat3 to a Cat2.

I dont know why it's being referred to as a cyclone though, cyclones are an eastern hemisphere term, or maybe southern hemisphere. either way we don't use it in america (normally).

I guess i've never experience a "typical hurricane". It normally takes 12hrs for one to make it out of the Atlantic to Florida.

ok, well maybe not New England (which i'm still not sure what states are considered New England) but everything north of New Jersery. Once you cross the GWBridge it's like traveling back in time as you drive up I95. If you got west from any point on I95 it's way different, but that corridor and some major cities are stuck in a time warp.
