IMHO there's are quite a few people here that have learned how to make this occupation work for them.
Many of those I personally know deserve the respect, especially as they are the same ones who many of us look to for guidance. So just saying be cool with some of the more direct comments, these guys really want to helpTRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
Like you, I'm just a 'student' and don't know sh**.
But I would tell you Maverick is probably one of the best companies out there for new drivers.
Look into their SMS scores. (let me know if you don't know how to do this)
You won't find much about them that is negative from their drivers... most are very positive.
Their pay scale is above the rest. I'm told they keep you running. They don't pay for layover, because they want you moving - so it's rare that you will sit for any length of time (straight from one of their drivers).
They have flatbed, van and reefer - I was looking into TRD (the refrigerated division) because it pays more, and with a refrigerated unit, you can also haul dry goods.
Most of their runs are midwest (I think) but they also run east.
There is a trainer shortage in their TCD (reefer) - and they're recruiting their flatbed drivers / trainers to help. TCD is a relatively new division, and growing.
All of their trucks are automatic - all or most have EPU's, built-in inverters, are newer models, have Collision Detection Systems, and other safety features.
The only reason I didn't go with them (I was approved and good to go) is because they don't have any terminals or drop yards in my area... not a big deal really, but I don't want to look for a place to park when I get to go home. I'm going with a company that has a terminal 1/2 hour from my home.
If you live near a terminal or drop yard, or have someplace to park a tractor-trailer - and don't mind driving an automatic instead of standard - call them! -
I have been in contact with them and am in the process with them. I am hoping that they approve me they called me for the glass division which is their highest paid division. I received a conditional job offer today from schneider but if Maverick calls I am jumping on it other than the fact that my first two months I will not be home everything else with them sounds great.
