El Paso also adopted the "no left lane for trucks" and installing toll commuter lanes (on a highway that nobody really uses for commuting) because they want to be like Austin. The baseball stadium because they want to be like Oklahoma City. The cell phone use while driving ban because they want to be like LA.

El Paso needs to get back to the days when we were like.....El Paso!

If it doesn't ring a bell, they must have not rebuilt. The Heather Haven Motel used to set on the south end of town on the west side of the road, and had a big truck parking lot on the south side of the building. They had a bar down stairs that had one of those old glass spheres hanging from the ceiling with the Anheuser Busch Clydesdale team of horses pulling a wagon inside the glass, and it was lighted. I think everyone that came in the door fell in love with that and wanted to buy it. I used to haul a lot of "batatoes" out of that area, and when the spuds weren't moving we would go up on the St. Lawrence River to a town called Riviere-du-loop in Quebec and put on a load of peet moss to get out. The McDonald's in Madawaska had the menu in English and French.

I live in the area and that truck stop has been there for years! Longer than I have been on this earth, also those people are pissed because all the high tech jobs and development happened a few exits south on 71. There is literally nothing else at that exit, and it's about 20 min north of Cincinnati, and sits within 15 minutes of all major business through out the Cincinnati suburbs and downtown. I do think truck stops and truckers could do a lot to improve there image. There is some blame to be had on the industry for it's image.

What I hate about PFJ is when a driver swipes their shower card, the PA system has to announce it over the radio in the restrooms, the TV room, and way out by the fuel pumps. I mean, are they afraid the guy will swipe his card, touch Shower and sprint outside full throttle before his receipt spits out? I'm surprised the cashiers don't go postal from hearing that all day. There was one PFJ, forget where, I was walking my dog about 2 blocks away in the neighborhood, you could still hear that Attention Professional Drivers..... can you imagine sleeping in your bed at 2AM with the windows open on a cool summer evening and hearing that all night?

Maybe if the cops would spend less time handing out tickets for broken reflectors and more time getting rid of the lot lizards, meth heads, drug dealers, and other scum that graivtate to truck stops; local communities would be more amenable to having a truck stop located there.
