i didnt want a flat. i know it woulda been better but i dont think i would have went to open deck if that was my only option. i know, doesnt make sense. oh well.

i am still considering buying a second truck though. and if i do the driver will definatly be getting a flat.

and yes if your going to be in a bad area its better to live there although i think that makes me a little bit more picky then i would be if i were in a truck stop somewhere. but i get a better load in the long run.

i was getting calls with load offers i couldnt believe anyone would haul and they were saying there was a bunch of guys preselected on them. to each their own. i dont need to turn my wheels just to hear the hum on the road

Just because guys were preselected doesn't mean they took the load after you turned it down. Just means they got the call after you. Many times loads pass by all the Mercer drivers then goes out on the open board and some other company hauls it. And sometimes a Mercer driver takes it because he has been sitting at a truckstop too long and wants to go somewhere else.
Yes to each his own. I'm glad your back on the road making good money.
The step deck does make sense to some of us (including me) with step decks.

Tolls are like batteries, not included. Usually UPS loads pay for tolls, and if you are on some kind of dedicated run, otherwise they're part of your cost just like fuel.

Anybody pulling UPS that can tell me the kingpin setting on UPS vans and pups? My trailer is at 30" and I have 1" clearance from my generator box in turns. I'm surrounded by available UPS loads in all directions but can't seem to get an answer from anyone on this. Sure wouldn't want to drive the first fifty feet and tear up my truck, and their trailer.

I had to pull my drombox/headache rack off because of the same thing.
And I found out, the normal trailers are 36" kingpin setting. I measured this, in hoping to put mine back on early but no way I can.
The pups should only have a king pin setting of approx. 22 inches. But getting ahold of pups is really rare. They seem to save those for their drivers, though I'm not sure why. All of us Mercer drivers have been pulling the regular trailers, lot of swift trailers and few rails trailer.
Also the rail trailers set down with half the clearance over the tires. A few of us with full fenders have gotten few scratches.

Thanks, that's what I figured, 36" is normal for vans. Unfortunately when I had my fifth wheel installed I was doing tank work and there was more need to slide it forward than backward, if I needed to move it. So sliding it all the way back now it is centered between the wheels. I'm not about to go through the trouble of taking off my generator or headache rack. Eventually I should probably move the 5th wheel mount rearward so I can have some adjustment. I guess as long as I slide it back so that I still have some forward travel I'll be okay. My truck is a 98 so no telling how much longer I'll have it. Since I can't go any further forward than I am now, at least with this trailer, sliding the mount back to give me 8-10" of rearward slide might be a good idea. If it was mounted with Huck Bolts it will be a real PIA to do myself, otherwise I may be able to do it tomorrow or over the weekend using grade 8 hardware.

Thanks again for giving me the correct numbers.
