That's such a horrible deal for this guy.Hope something good comes out of it.With no insurance no way can he afford the hospital at 20 k a night.I would think he can sue Swift not only for the hospital bill but for pain and suffering.Afterall this happened while employed at Swift

He is from Vegas. So here is the deal at the moment. I can't really get into his name in the hospital because the Sheriff' has him incognito as the violence of this attack has them concerned. I also know there have been several knife attacks in this area, so there may be a serial killer, according to one article. I asked the detective that question and he really didnt respond to it. It took me two weeks just to get to talk to Bob at all and I had the fake name and password to talk to him. It may be overblown a bit but I suppose they know better than I do. So all that said The Dr's down there said he needs to be in a rehabilitation hospital, but unlike a public hospital, they do not have to take anyone that doesnt have some type of funding. So until Swift steps up, or until he can go through the medicare maze, which we are working on, his best bet is simply to get moved to the LV public hospital so at least he will be near his family and get some visitation. I have asked the LV hospital to transfer them but they said no as he was already in a hospital and he has no ins. But I also said I know if I drop him at their door they have to take him, which they said yup.

If Swift doesnt step up and help him go to the rehab hospital we'll get him one way or another to LV. We'll have a lot more info on Monday. As I mentioned, truckercharity.org may be able to provide a med van to do this. As of yesterday we have a new person with the power of attorney in place. And God help her but she just had a death in the family this morning (it never ends) So we'll get this ball rolling on Monday I hope, if nothing else just to get him home.

I am a long time friend of this driver, (Still have my CDL but no longer driving) When I heard what was going on this was my way of bringing attention to what Swift was not doing.

I'm a little confused. If the driver was on duty and he stopped to take a break during his on duty time then it's a WC claim, plain and simple.

Swift SHOULD step in and do SOMETHING, if only for the fact that stuff like this doesn't happen everyday (or really, ever) and just sitting on your hands or pretending its not your responsibility is a PR nightmare for the company...

On a side note, WTF was wrong with his mentor? These so-called "trainers" are an absolute joke. Half of them run their students like cos and another third pull #### like this. A buddy of mine got left at a truck stop for four days in the Arizona heat with NO KEYS while his "trainer" went home to bang his girlfriend and get #### faced... Only the smallest fraction of mentors are actually decent people who care about the well being of their students and give them the necessary tools to succeed. It's sad, and that statistic definitely NEEDS to change...

Couple of things I might suggest for the immediate needs. One is to get a hold of Transalive (transalive.com). They're an organization that is there to help truck drivers who are hurt or injured while out on the road. The help includes getting the driver home and volunteers who will be onsite to help the driver any way possible. As I understand it, they're a Christian ministry that does not charge the driver for their help...they rely on donations/volunteers. Another is the aforementioned St. Christopher fund (truckerfund.org). They will help with medical bills, living expenses, job retraining if needed. For the long term, he might need to get a lawyer to go after the company. Make sure it's an attorney who specializes in injury/workman's comp law. Also make every effort to find the hardest, meanest, most blood-thirsty carnivore practicing in the state bar. Then see if he can have a little fun busting Swift's ##### trying to get help from them.....Good Luck to him & hopes for a speedy/complete recovery.

    Latest update on this is:

He is still in a Cal hospital. Swift still has done nothing. Truckercharity.org has said they will bring him to a medical facility near his home when they get the ok from said facility. The only problem with that is with no ins, no one will do that. As he realizes a bit more his situation, the less he is fighting. He has some movement in his left arm and legs. As in he can move them a bit but not lift them or anything like that. As you can imagine he is really down.

We are working on getting him SS and some sort of help so he ca at least get addmitted to something near his home so he can at least be near friends and relatives.

As far as second hand info goes. His mentor was fired. While he was waiting for his mentor he drank a beer curbside (no where near legal limit but may be the reason Swift is doing nothing...We don't know as they wont say anything)

Who drank a beer? The man in the hospital? If he did so while on the road and under a load he is in serious trouble in filing a claim. The company might say that that was the cause of his altercation and also was against company policy and refuse to pay any claim. I'm not sure on this but this little tidbit of info probably changes everything. What else will you throw in next?
