Man! This whole year has been a drag here at Mercer. I'll only gross $150k and I forgot how to get home I stay out so long! My average week is 3 or 4 days trucking and equal time sitting. I'm constantly getting snagged or deadheading 40 to 50% just to keep the revenue coming to the truck. Right now I'm stuck in New England for 3 days. Best load I could get out of here going down South is a 10.5' OD load with 8' tarp only paying 1.90. The legal load going down south paid only 1.40! I'm seriously just planning to park my truck for a couple months and do something outside of trucking. I can only see it getting worse this winter. Luckily I'm still debt free and can do that, for now.
Somebody tell me where the money's still at before I have to sell my truck and trailer!

Yes the web site states no min. age requirements. I beleive they have it this way because of some of the older trucks on here. I beleive there are some trucks in the early 90's, maybe in the late 80's but very well kept up.
Once a truck is on, they do not require you to update or sell your old truck. They won't even ask.
But to try and bring on an older truck, they just do not hire. But hey, I'm not the cooperate office, they can always make exceptions.
Recruiting would be the best place to get the real story.
I'm just a driver that like to talk.

they dropped that age limit flightline. i asked because i was looking at a 92. they are in a push to get trucks on for some reason. right now they may as weel all go home for the amount pf loads they have, in my area at least. i went out to try and just pick up whatever little scraps i could untill christmass but only got one load, now i am in waco thinking i am just going to dh home for the apocolypse. lol

If you read the latest post in the Mercer Blog by Len Dunman I think you'll see why they are ramping up in case they lose a bunch.

I guess I reading/hearing it different because of his words in the post
" As the EPA toughens these standards, expect all motor carriers, including Mercer, to have tighter maximum age requirements on tractors."

No, we're reading it the same way. With the average age of OTR drivers in the mid 50's many will likely leave the industry because of all of the things he listed whether they want to or not.
