Ok, here we go again with the accusation of others' "mentality": as if anybody that states something that someone else doesnt like is "inferior" to them. Welp, sorry fellers but Im not the one that is wrong here. Bottom line; anybody working for ANY and I do mean ANY of these large trucking companies is getting totally screwed. And if these poor wretches disagree, I respectfully declare that their "mentality" consists of nothing short of a total lack of self esteem for putting up with so much and receiving so little in return.

    Rolly and Hammerup Thank this.

So who do you work for that isn't in this category, or are you a O/O?

LOL! Dude, LET IT GO! My God, how long ago did you work for them? And yet you have to tell us how terrible they are, this long after you quit.

They are not the best place to work, but they are nowhere near as bad as you say. I don't doubt anything you say about your experience, but maybe you just had a bad string of luck?

Just as an example, 99% of tolls are Ezpass, and scales are paid by your fuel card-so no "reimbursement" required. PO's for xtra work come, for the most part, automatically. Yes, sometimes you have to call payroll, but they always straighten out thing immediately. They are not trying to screw you, they just make mistakes sometimes (have you never made a mistake?)

Yes, depending on your terminal, they may try to make you do work for free (looking for mt's, maybe), but all you have to do is say, "No", and they will then pay you. Beats working for a small company where I sometimes had to use my credit card to pay for fuel (reimbursed, but still...), or be late for a delivery.

Knight is just a trucking company that is making a profit, running new equipment, and providing a "decent" wage for it's drivers. Could they be better for the driver? Yeah, sure. But I have worked for a couple of "really driver friendly" companies, and you know what? They went out of business because they couldn't compete with the big boys.

I don't like that, but that is the way it is.

That's not to say that there aren't great companies to work for, companies that pay around $.50/mile and get you home every weekend, and give you a $5000 Christmas bonus, but they are few and far between.

Knight is what it is, and it's not that bad. It's not great, but it's not that bad

I keep seeing the same gripes about Knight. Good grief, my woes are fine. I recovered and never lost my home BUT I think this industry would be better without companies that conduct themselves like Knight. Their pumping out 300 or 400 drivers a week that will work for less...as long as they get all they are owed. That is why I won't be a stranger when it comes to Knight.

I'm sure if you go to other company threads you will see the same problems and gripes as you do here. Tracyq144 couldn't have said it better myself. It is what it is. Not the best, but certainly not the worst.:biggrin_25525:

Overall I just see the same arguments for hating Knight as I have seen about -Insert any company name here-I do want to thank those who have stated their opinion rationally on both sides of the aisle. I figure that your gonna have grief and distress at some point but for some people this company is just what they needed. It is all about mentality and approach. I will be looking into this company as I have not found a driver that I talked to face to face that was overly unhappy with Knight, but you gotta pay your dues.

Dale L. After 19 years of OTR, I agree with the other drivers about the fact that the larger companies are all the same in one way or another. I do believe you on the problems you've had with Knight. It's a known fact if they lie to get you, you can't expect much else after you get in their truck.I was tod that I was being hired for reefer, after orientation I was told they did run my area so I couldn't do reefer, I live 3 miles from I10 La. We know those truck come thru my area on the regular. I had the pleasure of being fleeced by Knight. I had the problem with them trying to force me to do per diem. My terminal manager and I had a very heated argument on my not wanting to be on it. It only benefits the company, they charge you to process it, when asked what happens to the $.02 extra they withheld they say they don't know, my response to that was I guess it just magically disappears, yeah into their pockets, the terminal manager told me that if I don't do per diem watch I won't make any money, I told him that the only way I wont make any money is if he tell them not to run me and that's just what he did. Everything you've said about what I call "the paper work game" is true, I don't know about other terminals but everyone I visited had drivers sitting around saying the same thing, I don't understand how a company so large never has any freight. Especially when it's time to go home. The second month I was at Knight I sat in Joliet, Ill for three days cause they didn't have a load for me to go home, which fell on a weekend and of course my pay was messed up. How, funny as soon as I said route me to Gulfport I quit, I was stack with 3 loads to get me from Joliet to Gulfport, and also routed thru the house to drop of my belongings. Though they made the mistake of letting me know that I had to find my own transportation home after I turned the truck in at Gulfport, but, of course I was suppose to pick a load and bring it there, which it was only 80 miles from where I emptied, Thur the house then to there. I made them pick up the truck and trailer from my house. I figured I was never going to get the money they owed me, on top of them trying to build an excuse for DAC if I would have did what they wanted they would have put quit under a load on me, I had my attorney contact them, they could not say that I abandoned the truck because, I was still in possession of it, and I did get all my pay before they came to get the truck. Only because I had an attorney to back me. All in all, they are low down, but, you have to know when you have enough and stand up for yourself, every-ones breaking point is different. But, I can go broke sitting at home. Hens set, but, they lay eggs. A truck and driver have no business sitting for more than a day.
