Would you beleive, approx. 6 years ago, I let my CDL expire and drove around for approx. 6 months. Only discovered it when taking a pilot test and couldn't accept my license for valid ID because it was expired.
Just can't belieive how long drove with it expired and didn't get caught. That might've created a problem at an inspection. -
Doesn't CDL stand for Cancelled Driver's License?

You can use the US version ...IF ... you add all the items required by Canada. That would be a real pain, and their DVIR is very different from ours. I may just switch over to the Canadian logs and use them all the time, that is perfectly legal. It will also give our DOT guys a headache because they are so crowded with places to put data. Mercer's version of the form is about the worst I've seen, there are much better laid out forms they could have chosen from. I'm just assuming I don't have to fill out the whole thing for the days I'm just in the US.

I think that their reset is 36 hrs not 34 as in the U.S. so the program won't reset @ 34 and also I don't believe they will have the one reset per 7 day rule in July either. (unless they are in the U.S.) I used to do a lot of cross border trucking but since I moved down from Alberta 9 years ago I haven't done much.

do you all sign your elogs or do you use a electronic signature? i stopped at a missouri weigh station to talk to a dot guy about the big road electronic log for android and he told me that everything looked fine on my sample page(not a real log of my driving) but he did tell me that mo dot will not accept a elog print out of prior 7 days that has a digital signature. It has to be signed in real time. he also told me that missouri will except almost any type of log as long as it has all the info on it since thier are so many diffrent ones out there now but the signature is a big deal with them.

I use BigRoad, but I print out my past 7 and manually sign them. Works well, for the most part.
-
yeah thats what i am planning to do too.Manually signing them is his sticky point to approve the log or not he said. i have it on my phone now. i would be really nice on a bigger phone or a tablet. what i like is the fact that it will auto change the status after set amount of time and when the truck starts moving. i forget to hit the button sometimes when i get ready to go or unload. i am still using paper logs until i can find the blutooth printer i like.
-
Print them out when needed, then manually sign them. This ain't rocket science.

I usually try to get 36 instead of 34 just in case a load comes up for Canada. I can still run the Canadian logs all the time, but choose to audit them for US rules. Since you can switch the audit type anytime that's not much of an issue. Sure would be nice if all states and provinces went by the same set of rules.
