anyone know what the policy is regarding having a passenger for a few days/weeks?
I think I heard that they'll need some kind of insurance, and written permission from someone...
passenger policy?

it's usually a form you get from ur dispatch sometimes with passenger name on it.I have heard of drivers getting tickets for not having one when they had a passenger with them.

You would need to find out company policy and have permission form in truck to avoid trouble. Insurance and company policy dictate riders. Then DOT is going to want written proof.

You have to have a permission form from your company with your passengers name on it, some companies require insurance wavier for this, if not and you are stopped and asked and don;t have you will recieve a ticket.

there is like 6 pages you have to fill out for who is riding with you ,and they have to be a certain age and yes the paper work has to be with the driver at all times.

If I were professionally driving a semi, with the exception of a trainer, supervisor, or another team driver, I would only have these 3 people riding with me: Me, Myself, & I. There is enough going on concentrating on properly driving safely, arriving at one's destination on time, in a safe manner, without having to worry about any passengers inside the truck with you. It is also a matter of potential danger and safety.
If I recall correctly, it is against federal regulations to pick up a hitchhiker.
Years ago, my deceased parents told me that a truck driver took them and me inside his truck when their car broke down and they were stranded, with me inside the car with them. I was a baby at the time, (born 10/1/1956). They were quite grateful to the truck driver for his kindness. This was back in 1958, which was 55 years ago.
Today, that same truck driver would be terminated by his employer and dealt with more harshly by federal authorities. Times have drastically changed.Last edited: Feb 10, 2013
