This is why for me. I've invested a lot in keeping my equipment up in the last year, I need to reap the rewards of that investment to a point that I can get out without that being thrown away. I cannot sell today for a price that will recoup enough of the equipment investment. My only option to avoid a big loss is to get out here and put enough wear and tear on my equipment to where I can sell it and break even on my investment. Plus I need to make at least equal a profit as what I would get in wages as a company driver. There's no point in switching my lease to another carrier, because few ifany can do much better in the short term anyway.

In 1 to 2 years I should need an engine overhaul. I'll be gone then, don't worry. Then you guys can go back to living in peace in Mercer fantasyland.

I'm considering retooling for a career as a deck officer so I can be on the water rather than fighting uneducated, knucleheads in traffic all day. I'm really sick of being saturated in a negative professional environment with no respect, no brotherhood, and no decent pay. I need to focus more on what environment I subject myself to for sanity sake.

I do think they are hiring way to many drivers. But to say a 50% turnover rate is bad, isn't half as bad if you compare to the industry of trucking. An average trucking company has a turnover rate of 2-300 percent per year. I know hard to beleive but check into actual statics.
Sadley I think this year, Mercer turnover rate get alot closer to average.
I bet Mercer turnover rate currently is closer to 80% and climbing.
I just wish I knew why they keep hiring and not pushing the agents for more better freight.

Does Mercer offer any help or classes to their O/Os on how to work the system and improve their own operations?

hmmmmm....i'm not sure. ofcourse if they did, they would be glad to charge ya and take it outta your settlement. the other thing to consider would that that class wouldnt do much good, their system isnt all that great anyways......

The reason I ask, is we do have this available at LS and it is free, only costing a little time. I participated in a Webex class and conference call, yesterday and even though I have been here over 13 years, I sure learned some new (to me) tricks, to improve my operation.

Just wondering if Mercer has anything, like this, to help their O/Os.

    SHC Thanks this.

I think Mercer should stop leasing trailers, and they should stop signing on people with no flatbed experience. If they did these two things, the number of unhappy contractors would drop drastically.
