Why do you ask that? I generally go SB when I am at dock. That's exactly what I was doing... under the blankets...

 

That's totally understandable rocks. I think things are maybe a little more relaxed out west compared to the areas you run in. Seems the west coast drivers aren't too concerned but the east coasters are by the book. If the dot is picky like you say then it's good to be 100% legal and not give them the chance to pin you for anything.
I find the dot out west here are more interested in asking me about the deer hunting in Canada than in what I'm doing with the truck LOL. I'm dead serious I even bought a deer hunting magazine so I knew what the hell they are asking me as I know nothing about hunting!!

 

Do you need to do that with the Elog so it doesn't keep recording on duty? How does Elog work? Do you push buttons or is it automatic when the truck moves or stops?

 

No, off duty. What kw9 is what I do too. Once I am in the dock I have no responsibilities so I am off duty.

 

It depends on how the company has it set up. Ours automatically goes into On Duty Driving after we moved 10 miles and from Driving to On Duty after we've stopped for 5 minutes. You have to manually put yourself Off Duty and in Sleeper.

I know a lot of the big carriers automatically put you into ODD as soon as the truck moves.

 

Maybe it was just a coincidence that your 14 and 11 ended up at the same place but from the example you gave, it looked like you were staying On Duty.

 

I guess each elog is different and each company uses it a different way. My company uses QualCom MCP 200. Once I start driving, after a mile or so, if I am over a certain speed (not sure how much...) the elog automatically puts me on driving. Then, if I stop and pull out brakes, it puts me on ON Duty. But I like to put myself on whatever manually once I stop.

 

I generally show that I spend a few mins at customer checking in or out and backing at dock. And then go either under my blankets or behind the curtain (SB) or go to wherever (OFF DUTY). I started my 14 at 7:15, drove for over one hr to get to shipper. Then, 6 hrs at the dock at shipper, less few mins for miscellaneous, so I had a little more than 5 hrs available to drive. But knowing that I would spend some time at truck stop, I knew I would have only 5 hrs available to drive.

 

Booneville MO, was going to go all the way to Midway, but I wanted to fill up at the Love's. There was a couple spots open, so I decided to park it for the night and fill up in the morning.
