its fixing to be federally mandated.
good time to get out if i do say so myself. lolBAYOU Thanks this. -
It'll take more than EOBR to chase me off. Not that I'm in favor of them, but once they are requied by all carriers, it should cause rates to go up. But time will tell.
If set up correctly, you can still use your truck for personal things and maintain off duty status. -
Rates won't go up, why would they?
volvodriver01 and BAYOU Thank this. -
Rates almost always goes up slightly when everyone has higher costs. Just like when fuel goes up, rates go up. Granted this is not always the case, as some things also cause rates to go down.
-
When fuel goes up rates go up only because of fuel surcharge. The government mandating elogs will not mean we are to get rate increases as well, because we are supposed to be running legal anyway, so it shouldn't (in theory) be anything that is going to cost us lost time and wages. And the cost of the equipment won't bring an increase in rates either, because if that were true then rates would follow along with the increases in the price of trucks, trailers, tires, insurance, etc, and we all know that doesn't happen.
-
oh ya cause rates have gone up so much the last 20 yrs that fuel has been doubling and redoubling. lmfao. nothing is going to bring rates back in line. sure you get the seasonal swing but in the end there is just too many heavies that have enough trucks to haul for pennies over cost. no offense but dream on.
BAYOU Thanks this. -
besides the heavies are already running the e logs. the mandate will just push us straglers into it. not enough of us left anymore to make a difference

I forget what the percentage of freight hauled by the large carriers is, but it is slim compared to small companies and owner operators. The only reason that there is so much cheap freight is because of all the little guys willing to accept the term back haul, and haul it to pay for fuel so they can be home every weekend.
BigJls1 Thanks this. -
You mean the way freight went up when everyone started pulling 48' trailers, meaning more cargo per load, or when the gross weight went from 73,280 to 80,000? I hauled even more product for the same rate. Surely the rates would increase when 53' trailers came out, everyone said they would. But they didn't.
All the big companies are paying O/Os less per mile, not counting fuel surchage, than they did 13 years ago when fuel was around $1.25 a gallon and labor at dealerships was around $40-$45 per hour. EBOR won't be any different. It's just a way to force compliance while using less recources during an audit to check compliance.BAYOU Thanks this.
