Eobr's are really only a win for the company, look at the reduced staff they will beable to have and what that will do for their bottom line.

you my mercer kool-aid driver does it every day! Any load that's offerd under $2/mi is a slap in the face, yet 65% of the loads mercer offers is under $2/mi

You guys don't get it your using your own truck/trailer and after cost your making just alittle more than a company driver. Let me ask this what do you think most company drivers make a year?

Who says I haul anything for less than $2 per mile? Why do you think you see so many loads on the board that are less than that? I will give you the answer, its beacuse the second something above that hits the board, drivers and coordinators are on it like stink on ####, and it disappears just as fast as it arrived. Like I said earlier, you only see what you want to see, not what you should be looking for.

How can you not count the fuel surcharge as an increase in rates if you want to compare to when fuel was 1.25 per gallon.
I am making more per mile now than when fuel was 1.25 per gallon. Actually most profitable when fuel hit $4 per gallon. But then I don't have truck that get lousy fuel economy. Though I wish it was better than 7.5. Hoping to get it up over 8 by end of the year.

Also already EORB is causing some to leave the industry, which will increase the need for more trucks. As we have been forced to run more legal over the last ten years, has caused rates to go up as well.

Let me ask you this, how many company drivers took home after taxes $65,000 last year? And only worked 8 1/2 months for the year, because thats what I did. I don't know any company drivers that can do that, do you?

i just hauled 10k to mass for $2.30. i was mad i was supposed to be adding an ltl with it to push it to over $3 but when i got there it was oversize. by the time i got permits and lost night travel the schedual was too tight to add anyyhing. they paied me a bit extra but.imo not near enough. i came back out with 30k at $1.60 to chicago where i can get good money all week. thats just barely under $2/mi average and should have been more.

my coordinator changed last week and she has really made all the difference. unfortunatly i have already decided to quit trucking though

Fuel surchage is only that, fuel surcharge. It is to compensate for high fuel prices. I averaged 6.7-7.0 mpg with 48% average idle time pulling heavy almost all the time. Many trucks today don't get that with less than 20% idle time. To count fuel surcharge as an increase in freight rates is not looking at the picture. Freight should have gone up in addition to fuel surcharge. Drivers are taking more hours to deliver a load because of slower speeds, sleeping hot or cold, doing whatever it takes to gain a few tenths of mpg to be able to put a few dollars extra in their pocket.

This is riduciluous when tags have gone up. I never paid over $1200.00 for mine. Fuel taxes have gone up, parts, tires, insurance, every single item to do with your truck has gone up in the last decade, including the food you eat on the road. Instead of going out and back, many people are forced to chase freight all over the country for weeks at a time to make less net then was made a decade ago. The rates suck, and will continue to do so. The may go up some, but there are too many megas out there cutting your throat.

I was listening to a trucking show one night. The question was what is causing low rates for freight and low driver pay. I called in, and when I voiced my opinion that JB Hunt started it in the early 80's with their importing of drivers and keeping them on the road for months at a time, the phone went dead. I was hung up on. Funny how a little while later I hear a great ad for JB Hunt. Now everyone has tried to follow the model good ole JB started. Face it, you are working way too hard for way too little. There are a few exceptions, there always are. We are all just pawns in the big scheme of big money. That carrot looks soooo close hanging on that string. If only you could get a bite.

Wait wait, that's not what I'm asking........... I saying wages NOT what you made after expenses! What did your company make last year???? That's right it's not profit if you have too pull money from there to work on your truck or buy tires!

I made $56,000 last year take home after taxes and never pull money from my checking account to put back for anything!!
