BURNT OUT!

I think you said it best: you're burnout on the OTR life. You think its time for you to try and find a local gig?

I think you have to be really comfortable being by yourself for a large portion of your day to be able to tolerate the OTR lifestyle. If you are a person who needs to interact with other people regularly, it can be tough out on the road. Most of a driver's time will be spent in "solitary confinement".....that is, driving down the highway by yourself. The only interaction with other people will be at shippers/receivers and at the truck stop eating dinner. Those can be a crap shoot as many shipping/receiving clerks have the personality of a garden slug, and at the truck stop restaurants you may or may not be able to strike up a conversation with another driver.

 

I don't quite understand how you can be burned out from something that you say you have not done all winter!

 

sorry man, everyone has feelings admit it or not. when i went through my divorce about 6-7 years ago i think i hit them all, hate, depression, self worth, felt ripped off, etc.. i personally found exercise helped a lot, slowing down, eating better. I just started OTR with Roehl. Roehl has a ton of drivers out there and if I see one at a stop i talk with them. I talked to a swift guy the other day too, we were both waiting for cons to open. we had a nice conversation. I'm sure theres plenty of guys that don't want to talk but I think there are plenty that if they have time will spend a few minutes with you especially if they know you are troubled. things will get better!

 

Precisely why I have never stayed out longer than 10 days, ever. Now I rarely spend 4 or 5 nights in a row in the truck. No time to get burned out, I get the load out and reload for home. Always looking forward to either home or getting back on the road.

 

I've averaged $2.54/loaded mile and $2.21/total miles to the truck since 1/1/2013. That's on 18718 loaded and 2761 empty miles. Dry van.

 

I've been there. It's one of the reasons I leased to Landstar. It's really nice to look at the board or get load alerts with rates so I don't waste my time. It's not for everyone, but my margins are better than when I had my name on the door and the hassle and stress is way less. I also rarely sleep in my truck! I doubt they are your solution as they'd require an EOBR, but maybe a similar deal might be worth it.
