so last year i came off otr and started driving local food delivery. well after being told the job was mon-fri 50-70 hours I worked 3 months and it was more like 80-90 hours 6 days a week my fiancee told me she would be more comfortable with me working otr and actually getting some rest and i couldn't agree more. so here i am. its a bit tough getting used to a governed truck again though. I hired on with marten NE regional and so far I'm liking it. So far they are keeping me running, sending me a preplan for my next load before i have the current one delivered, actually this weekend he had me preplanned 2 loads in advance. This is my first truck with an apu and i'm feeling spoiled, 9, yes 9 12v outlets. I actually have more than I know what to do with. Man it feels good to drive outside PA again.

There is no such thing as a 40 hour week trucking. You can always hear that highway calling. Come back, come back, you miss it! :biggrin_2559:

sounds like you gave it a more than fair chance and hopefully at least made some good $$$. But yah, those kind of hours will start to take years off your life pretty quick.

Just about any local P+D or LTL city work is never going to be "just" what they say it is. I've been there and done that so I know what it's like! Working city P+D is what motivated me to buy my own truck and get back OTR running a reefer. Unless you get on a unionized job were the hours and conditions are set in stone you're going to work your butt off everyday.
I put up with it for the fact that it made my girl happy to have me home every night but when you start work at 3am and finish at 7pm( Canadian duty shift is 16 hours) you don't get much time at home really at all.
Hopefully you can find your groove in this new job and it provides what you want.
BTW what happened to getting your own truck?
