You know, it's 9F outside right now. I have idle this truck a few times today, on and off, no more than 30 mins each time but battery was getting low. Couldn't turn light on or radio on that would start beeping and now the sun is gone and my hands are aching, having difficulty moving my fingers... they are getting numb again.... So, just started this engine and will keep idling at least until I fall asleep. Will do some planning for tomorrow and will leave in the morning.

I was just this () close to checking in today from Panalpina. I do not like Panalpina. I was there just about an hour and that VERY nearly messed up my last 10,995# load! That was #10 delivery ticket. I THINK it was a record Monday!

Does she know/understand about "fuel gel"? At those extreme temps, even with additive....keep the truck running to keep the tank heaters on and the fuel at least a minimum of circulating....especially the fuel lines!HeWhoMustNotBeNamed and Rocks Thank this.

Few trucks have tank heaters anymore, Otter. Although with the minimal amount of fuel returned by the common rail engines, they are likely to become commonplace again, at least up north.

Really? Then why does my tank emit what appears smoke/steam when I pull the cap?
Legit question, not ball busting! I thought in tank heaters were regular issue. When did that change? Or is it a special order thing for the northern trucks? -
I should have qualified my statement. I know the isx doesn't return enough fuel to warm the tanks, the dd13 might. But tank heaters are fairly rare, most trucks you see with some type of fuel heater use the heated filter/separator. They weren't as necessary with the unit injector engines, as they returned a substantial amount of hot fuel from the rail (in the head) to the tanks.

Even so...wouldn't it be better to idle the engine in zero/sub-zero conditions? for reasons other than fuel?

Oh absolutely! Below 10*F starting can be an issue. You can't get them turning fast enough to get the fuel to ignite.otherhalftw Thanks this.
